Affordable Quality Education at University of Calcutta

I was a student of University of Calcutta, one of the well-known universities, where I had spent such wonderful times. It helped me in enhancing my skills and knowledge. University of Calcutta was one of the dream institutions for the students who wanted to flourish their career and it offered a variety of courses at affordable price. Also, this university had experienced professors and research facilities for which I chose this particular university. I think a proper guidance and support from the professors is very essential for the university students and to get this, others should also go for the same.

I had done post graduation course from University of Calcutta and English was my subject. The core reason of enrolling in the same was the syllabus of University of Calcutta that covered a broad area of literary periods, linguistics, novels, poems, etc. and prepared a student to excel their career in publishing, content writing, teaching, researching and so on. However, getting the chance to study in this institution was not as easy as it took a tough entrance exam. To apply in the course one had to secure 60% marks in graduation. The admission process had three steps. First one is the form fill-up, then the selected candidates got the chance to sit for the exam and after that those who were qualified got the chance to study Masters at University of Calcutta. The course was for two years and we had to give one exam per year. Briefly, the knowledge that I had gathered while doing this course, had shaped my career and enhanced my confidence level.

The course fees for M.A was approximately Rs. 20,000 per year, including the tuition fees of Rs. 5,000, admission fees of Rs. 12,000, caution money of Rs. 2,000, and the registration fees of Rs. 1,000. Though, special discounts in fees were provided for the underprivileged candidates. Also, scholarships and financial aid facilities were available for the students who got 75% marks.

The faculty members at University of Calcutta were highly experienced. Most of the professors had more than 20 years experience and they provided us tips from their experience. They used smart technologies like PPTs, group discussions, etc. besides using blackboards, to make the class more interactive and engaging. Their problem solving abilities helped us to enhance our knowledge. They enjoyed answering our queries. It was big campus and the teacher-student ratio at the university was approximately 100:5000. All the faculty members were very approachable. Whenever, I faced problems in solving any answers and wanted to check my answers from my teachers, they helped me a lot. I never thought to take any private tutor help as my university faculties helped me with the academics.

There was no placement cell at University of Calcutta.

University of Calcutta does not provide any residential facilities.

University of Calcutta had multiple academic blocks spread across different campuses in Kolkata. My university campus was too big, approximately 2 acres, beside the main road. Metro, train, and bus are easily available here. There were library, labs, seminar hall, auditorium, and conference hall. Also, there was a big canteen, sports area, medical, transport facilities, etc. Our classrooms were spacious and airy enough. I really liked my classroom which gave me a lot of memorable moments. Also, I used to spend a lot of time in reading at the library which helped to sharpen my knowledge and enhance my academic experience.

I have enjoyed my campus life at University of Calcutta. There were multicultural students in our campus. We enjoyed participating in different events like annual function, welcoming fresher’s party, annual sports, etc. Also, our campus organised extracurricular activities like music and dance competition, NSS and NCC societies are also available in the university. There were environmental and sustainable groups who organized awareness campaigns. Briefly, my university life was an enriching journey, filled with new friendships, academic challenges, and memorable experiences. My university had a strong alumni network through which I got help in my further career.
