B.A.LL.B Course from NLU Hyderabad

I am currently studying in 3rd year of BA LLB (Hons) at Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad. My experience with the university has been great until now; I have explored many opportunities, which might not come if I would have been in other universities. Be it moot, ADR competitions or debate competitions, everything is great and everyone is supportive of you if you want to do some competition. Our seniors, professors and even other staff are helpful. I think the mentor-mentee program here is not available elsewhere. Under this, you will be allocated two personalized mentors who will help you navigate through your course.

My motive to choose this course has been to pursue Corporate Law and go for Corporate Law Firm job. One can enter the university by clearing CLAT UG exam and getting a good rank under 100. You have to score the minimum prescribed percentage in 12th also to be qualified. The admission process will start after you have qualified CLAT and have fulfilled the eligibility criteria, which is easily available on the consortium site. There will be two semesters in a year and within one semester; there will be one midterm and one end term. Therefore, in total you will have exams four times per year.

The fees for BA LLB (Hons) are around 1.5 Lakh and in addition to that, you have hostel fees, library fees, mess fees and other fees for essential services they provide. Therefore, total fees for one year will be around 3 Lakh. There will be some 10 percent discount for SC/ST/EWS students while registration. Overall fees will be similar except the discount given at the time of registration. There will be university scholarships based on merit as well along with other state and centrally funded scholarship.

All faculty members are very approachable. They are not only approachable but they teach well too. The academics are not taught only theoretically but we do application of the same through class discussion and even our exams are application based. The methods of teaching range from convention to modern. You not only have the professors teaching us through board but also through PPTs, group discussion and our projects. Additionally with variety of electives offered, you can explore various options too. I personally bonded well with the Criminal Law professors.

The placements have been good constantly, with 100 percent placement each year along with pre-placement offers, and other assessment internships. There is RCC and ICC who manages and supervises the placement and Internship to the students. The placement offers received by students include top law firms nationally and internationally such as HSF, SAM, CAM etc.

The college, due to being situated far away from the main city of Hyderabad, provides the residential facilities to students within the campus. We have in total 7 hostels for both boys and girls and we even have one gender-neutral hostel. Apart from this, we have convention centre where students for other courses could also stay during their course. Each hostel has washing machines that work well pretty much every time. The only problem is the problem of monkeys and snakes, which can be found here from time to time due to the campus being placed in such environment and near the lake. The hostels for both girls and boys are separate and the hostel timings are not strict especially around exam time. There is strict policy of no entry of opposite gender in other hostel. The mess food is also good, providing variety of food ranging from South Indian to North Indian to even West and East sometimes. My hostel experience has been good until now.

The campus is vast, with lots of greenery along with a lake nearby. The campus size spread around 55 acres of land, which makes its one of the biggest NLU campuses in India. We have dedicated moot hall, library area (two storey), three seminar halls, and two other big halls for conferences. we have one medical centre for emergencies along with two ambulances. We have a vast turf area where people practice for sports for various more events. Apart from mess, we have various eateries open within the campus, that too at affordable prices. The campus is around 50 km away from main city, which means the only option for going to city is either cab or auto, which makes it costly to travel if you want to hang out in the city.

College life at Nalsar can be tough as well as smooth at the same time. With rigorous academics, you will have opportunities to free yourself and relax during various DJ nights and fests where you get to know culture of other people. We have various clubs that works actively to arrange various activities for students. We also have ‘Art Wednesdays’ that help people relax and bring out their artistic side. We have around 5-6 fest per year along with other events like organizing Moots, Negotiation Mediation Competition etc.
