Indian Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Prakhar Singh

Indian Institute of Kanpur is an independent institute and it was established in 1959 in the area more than 1000 acres. To move inside the institute we need bicycle because without it we cannot move inside the campus because campus is very vast. Institute provides various facilities to the students like various clubs for the students’ hobbies and a huge indoor sports facility. There are many extracurricular activities for the students but there are also many classes and to the class test and assignments is also very hard because IIT Kanpur design hardest exam for the students to pass. There are lots of classes in the academic days. There are classes 5 days a week and Saturday and Sunday is off. I get the institute in the CCMT counselling process because my rank in GATE exam was good. I took the branch micro electronics in the college.

Master of Technology is a Post graduation program which is 2 year long and follows semester wise evaluation scheme which means there are four semester in the program. To get admission in IIT Kanpur I appeared in the GATE exam after on my graduation but I was unable to get good rank such that I can get admission in the institute. So I took one year break and prepare for the GATE exam form a coaching Institute and after one year in GATE 2020 I appeared and qualified with good marks and scored 215 All India Rank in GATE exam. Then I did counselling on the CCMT portal after that I get the admission in the college. I opted for M. Tech because I wanted to gain knowledge in my domain and I wanted to be good electrical engineer and I also want to appear in good company's recruitment processes.

One of the highlight of IIT Kanpur is the faculty members here because their knowledge is unmatchable and they are highly qualified and all of them have done post doctorate from the best universities across the globe. Since I enrolled in the post graduation course in this course we need to do most of work by ourselves which means we do not require more from the faculty and that being the case faculty members are very supportive and many faculty members are registered in the IEEE conference. Many of my faculty members published numerous research papers and each one of them has filed their patent. Style of teaching is also good because they are very experienced in this field and they know how to deal with the students. Teachers also help in the publishing of the research paper and provide help in the publishing cost.

There are many good placement opportunities for the students specially for the computing branches because most of the companies that visit IIT Kanpur campus are for the computer branches students. There is placement and training cell in the institute which brings multinational companies. Samsung and LG visit the campus for the Research and Development profile for the students and provide CTC based on the performance in assessment. There are some companies like Quant and James Street which visit the campus every year for various profiles and offer up to 1 Cr placements. Highest package of the institute till now is Rs. 4 Crore and the average package in the institute is around Rs. 20 lakh per annum. In my batch 80 percent students got placed in good companies and the 20 percent who are not placed opt for the PhD such that they can make a career in research.

Students are provided with the choice that whether they want a two sharing or three sharing rooms. Students are instructed to live in the hostel area because campus is already very huge. Hotel charge is different from the academic fee. The charge of the hostel is Rs. 15,000 per annum which is needed to pay in advance. Mess food is also good and each day we get different food and on the Sunday and Wednesday we get special dinner like Kheer Pudi, Paneer, Gulab Jamun etc. IIT Kanpur Hostel rooms have all the basic facilities for the students. In hostel we make new connection to our batch mates and to our juniors and we have to take the doubt clearing classes for the juniors and we celebrate each festival in the hostel together. I think hostel is good and they charge very little fees for the facilities they are providing to the students.

Since IIT Kanpur is the first institute in the India to offer Computer Science course hence there is a huge computer center in the institute and there is also an active super computer in the institute which manages all the server of the institute. College provides free high speed Wi-Fi to all the students and we also provided 200 GB storage for free and we can utilize it to save our data on cloud. Library in the institute is a 3 floor building in which we can find all the book present in the world. Classrooms are air-conditioned and designed in the taper from such that all the students can see the board. There are many hangout places in the institute where we can sit and relax. Institute has many canteens and one of the canteens was big and it looks like a restaurant. There is also a big hobby center in which we can go and play according to our hobbies.

Many fests happen in IIT Kanpur, like cultural fest, sports fest, and technical fest. Each year a cultural fest called ANTARAGNI happen in the institute in which last year Sunidhi Chauhan came in the cultural fest. A technical fest naming TECHKRITI happen every year in which students makes projects and show in the fest and the winner in each category wins 1 Lakh cash prize, students outside the college also participates in the competition. A sports fest called UDGHOSH happens each year in which students all over the north India come to participate and winners get the whole some amount. There are many recreational activities that happen in the institute for the students engagements. There are many clubs in the institute. Life in the IIT Kanpur is full of extracurricular activities with tones of study to qualify the semesters.
