GITAM University B.A.LL.B (Hons.) fee is approximately Rs. 1,05,000/- per year

To describe the overall experience in one word, it would be ‘decent’. The University life has its ups and downs, and there are several faculties who are absolutely amazing at teaching their subjects, while others are average. The primary factor which made me chose this University, was its comparative affordability. The main distinguishing factor is that the faculties are super approachable, and the campus is an added plus point.

I am currently pursuing B.A.LL.B (Hons.) from GITAM University Visakhapatnam. I choose this course since I was interested in the integration of legal concepts with the subjects of the Humanities. The University conducts its own admission test, which is subsequently followed by a personal interview, and at the end is document verification. As of this semester, exams would only be conducted once every semester, and there would be two separate class tests, which would depend upon the faculty. The academics do prepare you well for industry-level challenges. However, at the end of the day, the University can only teach you the Law, how it is to be applied in real life, can only be understood once a student get experience from internships.

The fee for my batch is around Rs. 1,05,000/- per year. However, the fees have increased by 50%. Additionally, there is an exam fees of about Rs. 1000/- and consultation fees of Rs. 2000/-. Other than that, the afore-mentioned fee is inclusive of all other facilities provided by the University itself, including the library and exam fee. The GAT exam provides scholarship of up to a 100%, for the entirety of the course. However, to continue the scholarship, one is required to maintain a minimum of 8 CGPA. I currently have a 50% scholarship based on my admission exam score.

The majority of the faculty in the University either has a Ph.D or is currently pursuing their doctorates. The faculty comes from various backgrounds, some of them are from other states, and some of them are local. The faculty is vibrant and diverse. The teachers use various methods to teach including PPTs, class presentations, group discussions, assignments, etc. The faculty has a good ability to tackle the questions asked by the students, and even if they are unable to answer them immediately, they follow up. The student-to-teacher ratio is close to 1:30, which is good, and no student is actually neglected, as long as they are involved in the class. The faculty and students share a good bond, and all of the faculties are very easily approachable.

The School of law, itself does not have its own Placement cell, which makes it difficult for the students to secure internships which are mandatory. Since the University is currently not having a placement cell, it depends upon the recruiters called by the other branches, to get the students placed. The biggest recruiters are insurance companies, including TATA AIG. The highest package ever has been close to 10 LPA, and average packages are around 5 LPA.

Yes, the University has sufficient residential facilities to accommodate all the students. The girls' and boys' hostels are separate. The mess food quality is very good. The food menu is revised once a month. The average hostel fee across campus for non-AC rooms is about Rs. 80,000/- per semester. The hostels only have double, triple and quadruple (girls' hostel only) sharing rooms. The boy’s hostel is far more relaxed as compared to the girls' hostel, in terms of rules and its enforcement. The hostels do feel a bit crowded, because of the massive number of students availing the facility, but the experience is not bad.

The overall campus is spread on a huge area of land. GITAM University Visakhapatnam has numerous departments, canteens, food stalls, etc. The school of Law is one of the smallest departments on the campus but still is sufficient. The campus is situated about 10 kilometers from the main city, but has enough amenities around it. The classrooms have all the possible amenities like AV aids, projectors, computers, ACs, etc. The University has multiple sports facilities, including Cricket stadium, Football turf, Badminton court, etc.

The University life is very vibrant and full of various types of experiences. The University does have a huge crowd, with over 5000 students given admission each year. There are numerous clubs on the campus, for sports, recreation activities, celebration, etc. There is an inter-campus fest which is held annually. The University life is very active, and one can easily find things to keep themselves engaged in the areas of their interest. The University life has been very fulfilling.
