SRM University is good for btech CSE with Big Data Analytics

It was year 2020 when I appeared for JEE mains and advanced as well as SRM JEE (Exam required to get admission in SRM). Since, it was Covid times, I had to enroll online. But, first of all I want to share that Yes, I chose to be in SRM Kattankulathur. I could have gotten into an IIIT but with lower branches which I was not interested into. I wanted Computer Science Engineering to study with, and I got that easily in the first round of SRM KTR (main campus) after which I consulted few of my seniors and relatives and all of the experiences shared regarding main campus were good enough for me. And, now as I'm here I do not regret my decision. I've been a witness to the placements of final year students and it was more than satisfactory. Although, I wouldn't recommend much good about hostels as the fee is pretty high but the food and standards are not appreciable. I'd definitely recommend you choosing SRM for CSE if you don't get any government colleges and you want to try for private Institutes.

My course is B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering with Big Data Analytics as specialisation. This specialisation helps you open paths as data science expert and data scientist even as business analyst. There's nothing special required apart from your inter classes teachings. But, it'd surely be beneficial if you're good with statistics and probability because that's what required becoming an analyst.

Most of the faculty here in SRM Kattankulathur campus are from South India. But, if you're lucky enough like me you might get North Indian teachers. I remember I had Statistics teacher from West Bengal, but just one teacher from north. Still, all the teachers here are pretty experienced and always available to help out even you want to talk through WhatsApp. Yes, every teacher uses multimedia classrooms to help us study and understand well.

Yes, we do have a placement cell here in our campus and yes they help us with more and more opportunities every now and then. We've a website called superset only dedicated for placement and internship purposes, we were given the access to it near the end of 2nd year. Now, we were notified for every internship opportunity on the website and we could just apply directly from there. As, I've also been witness to final year students placements, it was more than satisfactory and I think more than 40% students opted for placements were placed in dream companies or above, rest 50 - 55 % were also placed but with a little less. But, overall the help from placement cell throughout is more than enough to achieve a good package.

There are specific unisex hostels for specific years and yes I chose to stay in hostels for all my college years by choice. But, if you can live outside, I'd recommend you go for it as it'd be less costly, better food and more North Indian friends if you're looking for. In hostels most of them are south Indian guys only and even the food is mostly south. Though, they provide both North and South dishes daily. And, you'll get chicken/paneer for two days, Wednesday and Sunday. The availability of warm water to drink as well as for showers is available appropriately. So both the options are better to go with Hostel or rented rooms. Just, difference is going to be of prices and food. So, overall go with your choice.

Most of people get confused, but there are two campuses in the same area of KTR. And both are main campus, one of it is responsible for Mechanical, civil and other lower branch engineering. Now, the campus where there are hostels and admission offices, hospital, etc. There are many buildings but for us engineering students we've two main buildings known as UB and TP (Tech Park). UB is responsible for 1st year's classes as well as the specialisation classes whereas the core branch students go to the Tech Park. The buildings are perfectly built and renovated, but the Tech Park building is not fully furnished with AC. Also, the availability of washrooms on every floor and availability of lifts is a thing you'll appreciate.

SRM University Kattankulathur campus provides facilities to connect with all religions, and other state students. There are plenty of clubs to join in, have fun and learn together. Though, I never joined a club but that's totally up to you. There are 3 - 4 important fests that happen around a year apart from little fests that you get to be part of. As a hostel student, I've also experienced Diwali and Holi in the campus and enjoyed it more than anything; it was one of the best experiences.
