'Oculus' is an Annual Techno-Cultural Fest of SPIT Mumbai

Honestly, I was hesitant to join Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and was regretting my decision in the beginning. But I was so wrong, I never realised when I started feeling like home in this Institute and how incredible the crowd, the workload, the studies, and everything else is. I wouldn’t have survived being in Mumbai if it wasn’t for my Institute. It helped me find accommodation for myself. The course offers much more than just theoretical knowledge. Everything about this Institute has taken away my regrets and now I can easily say that this Institute is honestly one of the most welcoming and good Institutes in Mumbai.

I'm pursuing B.Tech because I always wanted to be a part of the community of coders. Admission is a little tough, but the Institute and the course completely justifies it. In MHT-CET, you need 99.5 percentile or above to make sure you can have a seat in the Institute (General category) & around 99 for other categories. They'll guide you through the process if you are eligible. Frequency of exams is quite high but it does not overload the students. We have Internal Sems, Mid Sems and End Sems with lab and theory exams. The academics really prepare you well for industry with the kind of subjects they teach besides just technical knowledge, such as Soft Skills, Professional Communication Skills, etc.

As I fall in NT-C/2 category, I had to pay hardly Rs. 27,000/- per year. Scholarships are heavily given to the students. General category has to pay Rs. 2,00,000/- per year but that’s the average fee in Mumbai. Mostly the fee only consists of Tuition Fee, Development Fee & other charges. Financial aid depends on your conditions. Moreover, Government schemes are heavily implemented here.

Faculty is highly knowledgeable and expert in their domains. Personally, I wish they were less strict and listened to students more but I understand that handling so many students is a tough task. They're forever there to help you out and solve your doubts if you stay attentive and behave nicely with them. We have digital boards thus mostly PPTs are used to teach everything. Moreover, the faculty shares these PPTs with students to study for exams too. The faculty keeps on pushing students for practical applications and to take part in competitions.

Yes, The Institute has a Training and Placement Cell. It helps the students throughout the process of Placements and Internships. TPO office keeps giving opportunities to the students via mail and offline seminars. They conduct various tests and provide training for placement. Average package in 2024 was 15.5 LPA, which is really nice. I am still in second year and they are helping me with Internships, showing TPO office's dedication to make sure students are provided all the support needed.

Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, Mumbai, doesn’t provide hostels. But as it is situated in Andheri, students can easily find sharing flats and PGs. In my opinion, sharing flats are better any day. You can take help from the Institute to get contacts of PGs and hostels outside college.

Infrastructure can be worked on, and honestly it is being worked on every now and then. We have 8 floors, with labs on each floor. There are some labs with old equipment but I think they can be worked on. Many new labs are created thus it compensates for it. We have modern PC labs on each floor, with special Mac IOS labs, GPU labs and hardware labs. Also labs are accessible to anyone even after College hours, thus helping out the students who don’t have their own laptop to work on Institute's devices. Commute is never an issue, since the Institute is situated near the metro station.

Campus life is great. The Insitute has a crowd I never expected. They are humble, fun, helping and overall great. There are almost 21 clubs and committees in our Institute, including National Level Committees such as CSI, IEEE, etc. College fest such as 'Oculus' (Techno-Cultural) is organised each year at a huge scale where many celebrities are invited. Overall I enjoy being in SPIT Mumbai.
