Courses at GNLU Silvassa Campus Are Recognized by UGC, BCI & AIU

My overall experience at Gujarat National Law University, Silvassa (GNLUS) has been good in terms of academics and support provided by the faculty, but being a new campus, it has its own limitations. Academically, the University maintains the standards, and faculties are a mix of experienced Professors and young Academicians, but all of them are committed to providing quality education. As the batch strength is still small, one gets more personal attention and guidance from the faculty members. Here, all the courses are recognised by renowned bodies such as BIC, AIU, and UGC. Even though Silvassa is a transitory campus, it follows the academic structure of the main campus (Gandhinagar).

I am pursuing the B.A.LL.B (Hons.) at GNLU Silvassa, which is a five-year Law program. The entry requirements for admission are based on CLAT scores along with the eligibility of completing your 10th and 12th standard. The admission process is straightforward. After the results are announced, students are allotted seats through the counselling rounds. After being allotted a seat at the University, one has to complete the document verification, pay fees and confirm your admission. In terms of assessments, the frequency of exams is moderate. Each semester consists of a combination of end-semester exams (50 marks) and internal assessments (50 marks), such as presentations, projects, and tests.

The fee structure for my program is divided as follows: For the academic year, I paid Rs. 18,000/- as an academic facilities fee, Rs. 1,20,000/- as an annual tuition fee, and Rs. 28,000/- for infrastructure maintenance. Additionally, the examination fee is Rs. 6000/-, while the extra-curricular fee is Rs. 3000/-. Total Rs. 2,41,000/- per year, including mess and hostel charges.

The faculty at the University is a mix of experienced Professors and young Academicians. Their academic backgrounds range from NLUs and Central Universities to practical experience in courts or as researchers. Classes are conducted through PPTs, board teaching (including smart boards), case studies and discussions. The teacher-student ratio is favourable due to the smaller batches. Faculty members are generally approachable and supportive, and overall, the teaching quality is strong and constructive, maintaining a student-friendly atmosphere.

Since the first batch will graduate in 2028, there are currently no placements.

There are separate hostels for boys and girls, with boys accommodated in 2BHK and 1BHK flats and girls in double and triple sharing rooms, with recreational spaces and study rooms. The mess provides food four times a day, maintaining decent quality and hygiene. The hostel entry closes at 10:00 PM with basic safety guidelines. Hostel fee is Rs. 24,000/- and mess fees is Rs. 42,000/- per semester. My experience has been good, but due to the absence of a permanent campus as of now, there are not enough spaces, unlike most other NLUs.

Gujarat National Law University, Silvassa has a compact and organised campus located in the centre of the city. The classrooms are spacious and equipped with smart screens. The campus has essential facilities, including a library, seminar room, canteen, medical room, and Moot Court hall. However, unlike other NLUs, it does not yet have the full range of campus facilities. Each class has a seating capacity of 70 students. The transportation is by the University bus from hostels to campus and campus to hostels.

Campus life is simple and is gradually becoming more active as new batches arrive. As of now, the crowd is small but diverse, creating a welcoming environment. There are several student-led clubs and committees, including SAC, LSC, Moot Court Committee, Debating Club, Sports committee, and others. The University organises debates, sports events, small fests, and cultural activities. Overall, my experience has been positive; the campus is peaceful, supportive and improving each semester.
