BITS Pilani Hyderabad has Around 12 Departments

BITS Hyderabad is good Institution. What made me choose this Institution is the diversity of students which come from across the Country, the interaction I will be able to have with top Ph.D holders who also teach us various courses. Placement statistics here were also better than other Institutes where I could have gotten admission. This place has its own atmosphere, where every day something new is going on which keeps you engaged in one thing or the other.

The course I chose is B.E in Mechanical Engineering, and I was inclined toward it from my JEE preparation days. After researching, I found out that this stream is the best suited field according to my interests. The eligibility criteria is, you must score PCM aggregate of 75% in Class 12th, where you must secure at least 60% score in each individual subject. Then you can register for the BITSAT examination which has 2 attempts. Once you clear the exam, you are asked to fill out a preference form and then rounds are conducted which allot you a branch according to your interest and cut-offs. After all this, you are called to University and offline verification takes place. There will be a mid semester exam 2 months into the semester and one end semester exam, there are also couple of quizzes spread across the semester. The academic curriculum is based on the current industry standards which make us all industry ready.

The fee for the course I took is around Rs. 3,00,000/- to Rs. 3,20,000/- per semester and it includes hostel fees as well which is Rs. 50,000/- per semester. A one-time admission fee is also charged. Students whose family income is under 5 LPA can avail for a merit-cum-need scholarship.

The faculty members of my department are all multiple Ph.D holders with specialised degrees in their domain and they are researchers in multiple huge projects. They hold post doctorate degrees from renowned foreign Institutions and have high knowledge in their fields. Their teaching is mixed with PPTs, discussions and blackboard or digital pad depending on the lecturer. Problem-solving abilities vary according to every professor but you can freely approach any of them and they will try to clear your doubts in the best way possible. The student to teacher ratio might be around 1:15 in my department. Whenever I had doubts even if they are not academic related, they guided me on different aspects such as higher studies, projects, etc.

The placement cell here is called the Placement Unit (PU). They are responsible with tasks ranging from pitching to companies to training students for different types of assessments and tests. PU also coordinates with recruiters so that they get the candidates best suited for the job.

BITS Hyderabad has its own residential facilities and as students, you are not allowed to have a stay outside the campus. Facilities such as water coolers, hot water for bath and dispensers, and vending machines are available here. Accommodation is separate for girls and boys, and they change every year. Mess food is decent and special menu. The gates close at 10:30. Each hostel has badminton and volleyball courts in the center with lawn spread around for a lively environment. I personally enjoy my stay here.

There are 12 departments in my University. The academic blocks are situated near the gate. The classrooms in both the blocks are well built but the old academic block contains some big lecture halls which have a capacity of up to 500 individuals at once. The new academic block consists of faculty chambers as well as small classrooms with a capacity of around 80 students. Medical facility is also up to the mark with a small medical centre located inside the campus. All outdoor sports have their own ground and a 3 floor complex named Student Activity Centre is present which has places for indoor sports and gym, arts, dance, music, etc. My personal favourite feature is the indoor games complex where each room holds a different story.

The overall experience at BITS Hyderabad till now has been great. The crowd is competitive which I mean in a positive way that helps you bring out your best version possible. You get to meet a very diverse crowd from all over the Country. Societies are an important part of our Institution where one is present for almost everything. There are a lot of activities held by these societies along with the 3 fests which happen every year. 'Atmos' is a technical fest which is organised every odd semester, 'Pearl' is a cultural fest and 'Arena' is a sports fest which is arranged every odd semester.
