IIT Jodhpur B.Tech Admission is Through JoSAA Counselling

The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur is quite a nice place to be. Being a sophomore, my overall experience until now has been a splendid one. There were a lot of reasons for choosing this Institute. Primarily being from Gujarat, Rajasthan felt very near to me and adding to that, there were also AC single rooms here, which were honestly, the most lucrative point for me out here. Also, the city in general, fascinated me a lot. It is different from other IITs in a lot of ways primarily, the course curriculum, the branch change policy, the unique branch of Engineering Science that exists here. There is also a good deal of research here that is not generally found in the other second-generation IITs.

I'm currently enrolled in Engineering Science which is a combination of Department of Computer Science & Department of Bioengineering. The admission here for B.Tech courses is done through JEE Advanced with the opening rank being 1200 and closing rank somewhere around 15,000 for General category. Students are required to take part in JoSAA counselling. There is continuous evaluation for all courses with two major examinations i.e., Mid-Semester and End-Semester carrying atleast 25% and 40% of total evaluation, respectively. The academics are closely aligned with real-life problems with labs & serving as ways for us to apply book knowledge into real-life. There are also a lot of field trips organized by all departments which let us explore industries.

The fee structure at IIT Jodhpur is akin to the fee structure of other IITs ranging from around Rs. 1,30,000/- per semester. The Tuition fees is around Rs. 1,00,000/- and the Hostel fees is around Rs. 20,000/-. Fee remissions are given to SC/ST students in Tuition fees. Moreover, for general/OBC, there are fee remissions for family income below Rs. 5,00,000/- per annum.

The professors of my department are specially good, with most of the professors having done their Undergraduate and Masters at IITs and Ph.Ds from top Global Institutions. Most of the professors believe in teaching on Smart Boards with pre-made PPTs and are always open for Group Discussions. There are also office hours wherein students can visit the respective professors of their courses to ask specific doubts. The problem-solving abilities of the faculty are really good and at par with the professors from first-generation IITs. The teacher-student ratio is around 1:40 but it may vary depending on the course. Some common courses have up to 300 students per batch. Most of the professors here are amicable if approached respectfully and are always ready to provide their valuable insights.

The Placement Cell here is excellent and is improving year-by-year with many MNCs such as Google, BNY, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, etc. visiting the campus. The average package is around 16 LPA across all departments.

The Institute has separate boys’ and girls’ hostels with around 300 rooms per hostel. The mess provides four meals per day with separate messes for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. There is also provision for Jain food.

The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur campus is shaped like a typical Rajput fort with berms encircling the main academic buildings and hostels. The campus is spread across 800+ acres with all major academic facilities like Libraries, CC Labs, Seminar Halls, Conference Halls, Medical Facilities, and Daily Transport to-and-fro city. My favorite part of the campus infrastructure is the Knowledge Tree, which serves as a beacon of the Institute. There are different blocks for all the major courses along with departments for other Sciences such as Humanities, Economics etc.

Overall, the campus life is very hectic with Lab practicals and classes all day long till 6 in the evening. The Institute crowd is quite diverse as is the case for all the IITs. There are a lot of Clubs spread across three domains, Tech, Cult and Sports. I'm part of many Tech clubs such as the AI/ML Club, Web Development Club, Literature Society, etc. There are a lot of extracurricular activities organized by the Institute including mandatory courses each semester dedicated to exploring the world outside academics and tech. There are primarily 3 fests, namely, ‘IGNUS’, ‘VARCHAS’, and ‘PROMETEO’ alongside other fests. The fests are evenly divided amongst odd and even semesters giving students a sigh of relief from their all-the-more busy life.
