Campus Area of the CUSAT Kochi is Approximately 180 Acres

I would summarise my 4 years at CUSAT Kochi as an adventurous experience. In addition to having an awesome University experience, I also enjoyed the beauty of Kerala. I learnt Kalaripayattu for 1 year, which is Kerala's Martial Art and also learnt boxing at my University’s gym. Being from Delhi, it was a very new experience to do my graduation from Kerala but it was totally worth it. To be honest, I chose this institute because my rank in JEE Main was not good at all. However, I performed well in this University's entrance exam. I asked my seniors about it and they said joining this University would be the best thing for me as compared to other Universities.

I chose to pursue B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering because I have an interest in problem solving and algorithmic thinking. The admission to this University was done through a national level entrance exam called CAT. I secured AIR 893 in that exam, so easily got CS. The CAT exam is conducted annually around the month of May. The course curriculum is well designed according to the industry requirements. We are taught all core CS subjects in depth, and also electives like Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks with hands-on practical. In each semester, we have two internal examinations and one external examination for all the theory and lab subjects.

The fee structure of this University is affordable as compared to many others. It is roughly around Rs. 50,000/- semester. There are different scholarships also available for SC and ST students of the state. There is a provision to pay the fee through education loan also.

The faculties here are all experts of their domain. Most faculties have a Doctorate degree. The teaching methods vary depending on the teacher and also the subject. Some teachers prefer giving proper notes (theoretical subjects), while some prefer giving a presentation or seminar. All the faculties are really friendly and treat all students equally. If someone is facing any trouble understanding, they are given special attention. We can approach our teachers anytime for asking doubts. Medium of teaching is English because of students from all over the world.

Placement Cell is there in the Cochin University of Science and Technology Kochi, and it is functioning well. The average package 5 LPA but there are students who have an excellent package (upto 25 LPA). Companies like IBM, EY, and others visit our University. The placement ratio is also good. I did not sit for placements because I plan to pursue higher education.

Hostel is available at a very less fee. I did not choose a hostel but have friends who have told me that their experience has been really great. There are many different hostels - separate for boys and girls. There is a curfew at 8 PM. All the hostels have their separate messes as well that can be joined by non-hostellers as well by paying additional fee.

The infrastructure is really great & its areas is 180-acre. A new entry gate has been built recently for School of Engineering (SOE). There are many blocks for each department. All the labs have AC and equipped with many computers and printers as well. The library is my favorite spot. It is really a treasure of books on all subjects and all genres. The natural beauty of the campus is also really pleasing with plants & greenery all around.

Overall campus life has been really exciting, with people from all over the world. It is really fun when we all come together for some celebrations like Onam. There are various fests like Sarga and Dhishna conducted annually. Students’ opinion really matters in all decisions and that is the best part.
