Admission in B.Tech Course at GCE Ratnagiri is Offered through MHT-CET Exam

I am a 2022-batch student of this College & my branch is Artificial Intelligence & Data Science. I am originally a resident of Mumbai so taking admission in this College sounded a bit weird initially, but there were 2 to 3 major factors, which pushed me towards taking admission in this College. One of the major reasons was the fact that it is a State Government Institution. My experience in the College was a mixed, but overall the good things weight more in comparison so it can be good option. If you are a student residing in any Konkan region, you can consider this one.

I chose this course mainly due to my interest in the Computer Science domain. Also, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science was a very intriguing subtopic in the CS Domain. I also researched a bit before taking admission in the College about this field and all its career prospects, by this I also was ensured that it has a bright scope in the future. To secure a seat in this College, you will have to give the MHT-CET and based upon your score in that exam, you can be allotted a seat in your preferred branch at the College. The cutoffs vary a bit every year. Once you are allotted a seat in the College by the CET CAP round then the admission process is very easy in which you have to physically report to the campus with a list of documents which the admission department informs you. The procedure is followed by a thorough scrutiny of your documents after which, the College administration will give you an admission form. You will have to fill the form, submit, and finally pay the charges. In the end, you will receive a formal acknowledgement cum receipt from the College thus confirming your admission. The frequency of the exams is more or less the same for all branches which is a mid semester examination of 20 marks and a regular semester examination which is conducted at the end of every semester. This exam is of 60 marks and is the last exam of the semester. The difficulty is easy to moderate and sometimes a bit hard but it is easy to pass the exams with a minimal amount of study. The curriculum for every course is fairly decent and prepares you in all the major areas of your course.

One of the biggest reasons for me to take admission in this College was the fee structure it had, during my admission in 2022. The pandemic problem was just slowly subsiding and it had affected the employment of many people and they had to face financial problems during this period considering this I opted for this College. Now the basic fee structure of the College is very simple, if you belong to an Open Category, you will have to pay approximately Rs. 25,000/- per year of your Engineering. The entire engineering degree consists of 4 years, so in total your fees will be approximately Rs. 1,00,000/-. Fees include all the tuition fees, gymkhana fees, annual event fees, etc. If you are from a reserved category like SC/ST, EWS or OBC then your fees is rather low. All the students also get an opportunity to apply for various scholarship programs. Rasher Shahu Maharaj Scholarship is highly sought one among the others.

All of the teaching faculty has a good teaching experience and have at least Post Graduate degree. Some professors also have Ph.D Degrees as well. The method of teaching greatly depends upon the professor since the best teaching method is a subjective thing but mostly all the professors emphasize on understanding the core of any concepts / subject, remembering important information and practically understanding or implementing it if possible. During lectures, the professors use blackboard as well as smart boards to present PPTs and PDFs. The problem solving ability of the faculty is pretty good given that you approach the right person for the right problem. The teacher to student ratio is around 120: 1 which can be improved. I always had a great bonding with almost all my faculty members. All of them knew me by my name and we discussed upon different aspects of the subject/ topic, which they were teaching. They are also free to share their experience and opinion on a specific thing so overall they are highly approachable.

The Government College of Engineering Ratnagiri has its own Training & Placement Office (TPO). The TPO conducts various events and seminars in which different people outside of the College are invited to give talks on various aspects of placement, career planning, and assistance and is planning or organizing quizzes and programmes to test the job readiness of students. Various different job fairs are organized by the College and students are encouraged to participate in such job fairs where many different companies are there.

The College has currently 2 to 3 hostels for students one of which is completely dedicated for girl’s accommodation and another one for students from the EWS category or for those who chose for hostel facility. The College does not have its own separate dedicated mess until now. Most of the students and faculties go to the nearby private mess, which offer good quality of food for a fairly decent amount of money. The another option which I discovered was using the mess of the Polytechnic College & it has a separate dedicated mess which is used by the Polytechnic students but many a times students from my College also visit the mess.

When I got admission in the GCE Ratnagiri, the infrastructure was almost non-existent, the whole College was a 2-floor building and that too originally belonged to the Polytechnic College, which is situated nearby, but now the actual building of the Engineering College is constructed and has become operational in last year. This is the actual separate building completely dedicated for Engineering students. The infrastructure of this new building is commendable. The building has many different classrooms dedicated for different branches and includes laboratories and a central library. The library is huge enough and has all major books, which covers the curriculum of all the branches. You can rent a book for a specific amount of time with the permission of the librarian. The building consists of an indoor auditorium at it’s the ground floor of the building, various different events, programs and competitions are held there. Apart from that, many classrooms are used as separate seminar halls whenever a guest lecture is scheduled for students. My favorite part of the building is the library since it also has some space for students to sit and complete their assignments and most importantly there is not much noise so you can have some peace of mind there. Various rooms in the building are also used during the annual indoor sports championships, which consists of indoor games like Chess and Carrom. The rooms are also used for organising College level hackathons and various other tech events. Overall, the current infrastructure is good and more additions are being done.

To sum it all up my College life was almost like a rollercoaster ride. The College crowd is mixed which includes a few students who are local residents of Ratnagiri and also a big chuck of students who have come from different areas of Maharashtra. Some students come from as far as Nagpur, which takes more than 24 hours to reach by train from Ratnagiri. There are various clubs being created recently in the College like separate Tech club for AI-DS & Robotics club for branch of Mechatronics Engineering. Moreover, the College has a Gymkhana Committee, which is responsible for organizing him Annual Indoor & Outdoor Sports Championship, and Annual Event among many other events. The College also has a Google Developers Club (GDG). Overall, the campus life at College is nice, you will have plenty of things to take part in and discover various different skills within yourself, and academic part is fairly easy and chill with you being able to pass the exams comfortably with just a little amount of focused study.
