TSEC Mumbai has a Training & Placement Cell

In General, up until now, I have enjoyed my experience at the Thadomal Shahani Engineering College (TSEC) Mumbai. The reasons for selecting this one include its reputation, its location & placements. There is always something to do, owing to the fact that it has a good blend of co-curricular activities, events, and technical events. Owing to the location in Bandra and the student body in general, I like myself to be surrounded by people and opportunities. I would recommend joining this College to anyone who wants to put in the effort and avail themselves of the opportunities available. As is true of any College, there are definitely some areas that can be worked upon, but on the whole, I have enjoyed myself here.

Currently, I am studying Computer Engineering. This particular stream appealed to me due to my interest in computers, programming, and technology and as such will prepare me adequately for my career in the IT industry. Eligibility and admission criteria in the College depend on the usual eligibility and admission criteria for Engineering courses in Maharashtra, i.e. academic qualification and entrance exam scores. Usually, to get admission in this College in the B.E. (Computer Engineering) course, you need to give of either the two entrance exams - Maharashtra CET (MHT-CET) & JEE-Main. The entire admission process would happen on the CAP portal. 80% of the seats are filled in the CAP Process, and 20% of the seats are filled via Management Quota. In terms of academics, there are internal assessment tests, practicals, and final end semester exams (University exams). Some of the topics covered include programming, data structures, databases, computer networks, machine learning, etc. In my opinion, the academics provide a fairly decent foundation, however, student have to pro-active project development, coding, and practical work on their own.

The fees for my course is Rs. 2,00,000/- per year. There are multiple discounts available for students SC, ST, OBC, NT, VJ, EBC, and TFWS categories. Alongside, from the second year onwards, few scholarships are available for needy students.

At the TSEC Mumbai, most of the teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable. Either majority of them are Engineers themselves or they have done some higher education in their particular subject. The teaching style is mostly by presenting PPT and explaining it to the students. In my opinion, most of the teachers are very approachable when it comes to clearing doubts regarding academics, or any other subject. They try to re-explain the concept if there is any confusion Student-teacher ratio is manageable in all classes, particularly in practical classes. In general, my interaction with the teachers has been satisfactory. Bonding with teachers varies, but in general, all of them are cooperative and professional.

There is a Training & Placement Cell at the College that assists students in the recruiting process and keeps them updated regarding the latest openings. The cell works in collaboration with various firms and arranges for placement drives as well as assists the students with aptitude tests, interviews, and other recruitment related stuff. There are pre-placement seminars held. The packages offered can vary widely depending upon the firm and the capabilities of the students, with some of the recruiters offering much higher packages than others do. So far, I have not experiences the placement process myself, as I am currently in the third year of my engineering, and therefore, I am unable to share any personal experience regarding placements.

The infrastructure of the College is quite decent. It is situated in Bandra, which makes it quite easy to reach from various parts of the Mumbai city. The College has academic blocks that comprise classrooms, labs, and other facilities that are needed in the day-to-day functioning of the College. The classrooms are decently spacious. There are also library, computer and departmental labs, seminar halls, and other venues that conduct various activities. Canteen, basic sports amenities, and medical facilities are present at well. There are security guards all around the College campus. The thing I like the most about the College is its location and common spaces in which students can meet and socialize between classes. For Computer Engineering, the computer labs and other facilities prove to be quite helpful because it enables us to practically implement our concepts.

Campus life has been generally a good experience. The campus has a mixed bag of students from diverse backgrounds and people are generally pleasant to be with. There are multiple clubs and student committees for technical, cultural, sports, and other interests that provide opportunities for participation outside of studies. Various events, competitions, workshops, technical events, hackathons, and other activities are regularly conducted by College and committees during the course of the year. The annual fests are definitely one such thing that all students generally look forward to as it allows them an opportunity to take a break from studies and enjoy with friends. Various festivals and other occasions also have organized celebrations and other activities. Overall, I would say campus life has been one of the best aspects of being a part of this College, if you wish to participate.
