Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women (SPM) is an all-girls college that comes under the University of Delhi. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji established the college in 1969. It is situated in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi. The college holds affiliation with the University of Delhi and is accredited by AICTE. Admission to the college is easy as compared to other colleges. Admission to most of the undergraduate courses takes place via Merit-Based that is, based on the cut-off list. Those who fulfill the eligibility criteria get admission. In rare cases, sometimes the college declares a special cut-off list for filling up the vacant seats of reserved category. For some courses like M.A., B.Ed or B.El.Ed, there is a Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET). After clearing the entrance test, the eligible candidate gets admission.

Talking about College Management, there are designated committees and, their management is supervised by The Principal (Dr. Sadhna Sharma). There is an Administrative office which handles and executes all the processes of the college. Sometimes The Administrative office staff behaves rudely when it comes to helping the students. But the other teaching staff is good. We can explore the college to the full extent with their corporation and support. In all, the college is good.

Currently, I am pursuing B.Com from SPM College. Eligibility Criteria for B.Com is that there must be 50% or more in Mathematics/Business mathematics. Besides this, a candidate must have scored 60% or more marks as aggregate in class 12th. For opting for B.Com, there are no such entrance exams that one needs to clear. One must fulfill the eligibility criteria. This course is comparatively easy than other degrees. The best part of joining this course is, along with pursuing this course, you can learn some other specialized courses like any language course or any art course, etc. As well as, you can even focus on your hobbies.

Talking about course expectations, I expected the subjects to be quite tough to learn but later on, while learning I found them very simple. Approximately there are 4 subjects every semester that comprises both practical and theory subjects. To acquire a job after B.Com is not simple and easy. You will not be able to earn a high salary with a graduation degree. It is preferable to do Post Graduation in case you want to get an excellent job after completing B.Com you can pursue higher studies such as MBA, M.Com, etc.

There is a total of 165 faculty members of which 84 are permanent and the rest 81 are Adhoc. Out of which, there are approximately 25-30 teachers for the B.Com course. They have 10+ years of average teaching experience. Most of the teachers have done a Ph.D. in their respective fields. Talking about whether the teacher teaches their subject well, it is a very dynamic situation. According to my experience, those teachers who teach practical subjects like Accounts, Mathematics, etc. teach so well that you don’t even have to understand the concept again. You only require to practice to do well in that subject. On the other hand, for theory subjects like Economics, Business, etc. the teachers don’t focus a lot. There is a need for self-study for those subjects.

Most of the teachers teach multiple subjects. The teachers are supportive, knowledgeable, and experienced, while some of them are not of much help in framing the answers and solving the question papers. The Major issue with those teachers is that they lack behind in providing proper resources. And also, there is a biased system while giving internal assessment marks. I have felt this lot of times how much you work hard, teachers are still not ready to give you full marks.

Training and Placement cell of our college is not so good. It provides a lot of internships. In regular breaks for some months, the placement cell holds Internship week in which they come up with 10 internship offers in a day. But, it is not that worth enough because the companies for hiring interns ask for experience students only. Top companies visiting for campus placements are Amazon, Genpact, and Tata Power, eWARDS and Opima, etc.

The average package provided by companies is Rs. 1.18 lakh to Rs. 2.3 lakhs. Our placement cell actively updates about the internships and company-related details on the SPM Placement Instagram handle. Science student and the students who are pursuing B.El.Ed get more amount of placement opportunities as compared to humanities and commerce students. The percentage of students getting selected and placed from one batch is less. The highest package provided in our college is Rs. 2.75 lakh by Tata Power Company.

Companies visit our college to hire students for different profiles such as Banking and Insurance Profile, Customer Service Profile, etc. In conclusion, I can say that if you want to work after graduation in a good company then you should look for a college with good placement.

There is no such hostel facility provided by the college. However, they are still working on providing this facility very soon.

Our college is given a total area of 10 acres of land by the government. The college comprises two buildings and four enormous grounds. The college has an attractive garden which is full of various types of flowers and trees. The best part about our college grounds is that one can rest and enjoy during their break time. We are even allowed to order food from outside and can eat inside college premises (College grounds only). There are more than 100 well-furnished and clean classes. But the issue is that the fans attached to the classrooms do not work properly. Our college has a Wi-Fi facility although, it is allowed to be used in Computer Labs and by Teachers. One can face network problems while trying to call from within the college premises.

Now talking about the best infrastructure parts of our college is Auditorium and Canteen. Seats are comfortable in the auditorium since it is a large-sized place, fully air-conditioned many huge events take place there only. The college canteen is one of the best canteens you will find at Delhi University. It is spacious and has hygienic food at a very affordable rate. One may find a lot of variety of food in the canteen. Our college has a 3 storey library where you will find a book in every genre. There is also a bank inside our college situated. Our college has a Medical room also. One of the major drawbacks of the college is that it lacks in providing clean washroom facilities. There are washrooms on every floor still they are not cleaned and remain unhygienic. Also, there is not any proper water drinking facility.

Campus life in SPM is pretty amazing. It is full of fun. While studying, students can explore their hidden talents. With such great senior's tips and tricks, one can make a good bond with them. Moreover, there is no such senior-junior distinction. There is a healthy and friendly interaction with our seniors and they are very supportive and helpful. Our college is having a lot of societies where one can choose the respective society according to their talent. In my opinion, among all the societies, dance society is the best. It also represents our college at various Levels.

There are many nearby places and many cafeterias near the college. Even the college is located in Delhi, but still many students from different states take admission in our college. Every year college organizes the Fest that is adventurous and entertaining. Various college students participate in many events held by our college. Our college calls star performance to showcase their talents every year. Since our college is situated in Punjabi Bagh, I feel it is the most suitable and safe place for girls. There are many nearby places and many cafeterias near the college. During the sudden plans, one can visit these cafeterias to have fun.
