Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology was established in 2001 and has been one of the leading colleges offering Engineering in Kolkata. It is part of the prestigious Techno Group in Kolkata. The college is approved by AICTE, and affiliated by MAKAUT which was formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology. The college helps to develop technical skills of students to keep up with the competitive world. MSIT mainly focuses on providing knowledge to the students and improving their business and interpersonal skills. The college has a strict curriculum, eminent professors, and decent placements. MSIT is one of the best engineering colleges in Kolkata.

Students must appear for the Joint entrance exam or AIEEE exam and hold a decent rank to get selected at MSIT. At MSIT teachers, management and placement cell collaborates to enhance the knowledge of students and make them ready to be a part of the leading MNCs. The placement cell, teachers and management are always ready to help the students throughout the 4 years of curriculum.

I was a part of the computer science and engineering department at MSIT. The college offers other streams of engineering too, like electronics & communications, Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and IT. They have courses for BCA, MCA, M.Tech and MBA too, though they are in nascent stage and are not as good as the engineering course. A student who wants to get an admission at MSIT must have a minimum of 60% marks in 10th and 12th standard. He must also hold a decent rank in the West Bengal Joint Entrance exam or in the AIEEE. The rank required for different departments vary across streams and keep fluctuating each year. We are living in a digital era and technology is an important part of our lives today. The technical field offers plenty of job opportunities today. Thus I chose to be part of the computer science engineering department to ensure a good career path.

MSIT is one of the best colleges which help us to get into the tech-world. As a part of computer science and engineering program the college teaches us all the hardware and software related subjects in computer science, which will be required further when a student will start working in the IT sector. The college focuses on making the students learn coding and gets us accustomed to different coding languages like C, C++, java, Python which are much required skill sets asked in the industry today.

The faculties are extremely talented and helpful at the same time. Not only they help us regarding academics or clarifying our doubts and queries, but also helped to develop our skill sets, provided support and guidance throughout. All the professors hold degrees from prestigious colleges and few of them also have industry experience. All the departments have eminent teachers who are passionate about teaching and help the students in every step. I being a student from the computer science department can assure you that the teachers will always guide you. They also help to learn out of the course and syllabus stuff which are relevant in the business world and get prepared for the job sector.

The faculties always let us know about courses and certifications which are relevant in the industry today and motivated us to complete them which add on to our CV and also enhance the spectrum of our knowledge. The faculty motivates us to participate in tech competitions and events held in other colleges which boost our confidence and improve our analytical minds and critical thinking. There is a tech-based club in the college called Megatronix, which teaches us different aspects of technology. Coding is a very important part of IT industry today. . The faculties also motivate us for further studies and help us to prepare for competitive exams like CAT, GATE, GRE, and GMAT.

The placement is not 100%. I am a student of the 2012-2016 batch. TCS came for campus recruitment at zero slot. They were a mass recruiter and hired around 130 students from the campus. Other companies like Zycus, Persistent, Capgemini also visited the campus but hired a handful of people. Being a part of the Techno group, the students have to visit the main Techno campus at Salt Lake. All other Techno colleges also come there. Students from all the colleges need to sit for campus interviews together, which is a major disadvantage, as the competition becomes more stringent. After on-campus placements are done, students can sit for Off-campus placements where the level of competition becomes higher and chances to get selected becomes lower. Thus a student should always try to get placed as early as possible as the competition becomes more stiff as time passes by.

Nowadays companies like Microsoft, Intel also hire from our college which are dream companies for students from technical background. Though the students from CSE, IT, ECE get a good number of opportunities, hardly any core company visits the campus to hire the students from departments like Civil, Electrical or Mechanical. Thus ROI for the departments apart from CSE/IT/ECE is not that good.

The college does not provide any hostel facility. The students can take paying guest services nearby the college campus. There are lots of PG services and hostels available in the locality of the college. The hostel is clean, maintains good hygiene and is safe and sound. Girls and boys hostel are separate. The hostels offer average quality food. They offer Wi-Fi and mineral water facilities, but do not have geyser or air-conditioner.

The college is located near Urbana complex, in Ucchepota and is about 10-minutes distance from the Ruby general hospital. Auto service is there from ruby to college. The campus is not pretty large, but it is quite clean and well maintained. The classrooms are pretty good. There is a canteen which provides quality food at minimal cost. The library is huge and has almost all the books required by the students during the curriculum.

There is no playground in the college campus which is a major drawback. There is a common room where students often visit during their off-period and play games like table tennis, carom and a few other indoor games. The laboratories are well equipped and well-maintained.

The overall campus life is good. There are different clubs and committees like music club, cultural club, sports club and many more. Different events take place throughout the year. The main events are the annual cultural fest, the annual tech fest and freshers welcome. Some festivals like Viswakarma Puja, Saraswati Puja, Independence Day are also celebrated in college. Several creative events also take place, like fashion shows and flash-mobs. The teachers always motivate the students to take part in different events of other colleges as well.
