Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar is one of our country's national importance institutions. It is one of the best institutes of engineering of the country. Trust me when I say this, this college is ranked 52nd in the NIRF rankings. It first came into existence in the year 1987 as a Regional engineering college. The college was later upgraded to National institute of technology. One needs to appear and qualify one of the most competitive exams of the country to be here.

Admissions are made either based on JEE MAINS for undergraduate courses or GATE for postgraduate studies. International students have a reserved seat and are admitted through DASA. The college is a deemed university situated approximately fifteen kilometres out of the Jalandhar city and is at a distance of roughly seventy kilometres from the Golden temple. One can easily reach the campus and find its gates on the sidelines of the GT Road. The campus is not one of the largest but occupies a decent amount of area, i.e. 154 acres. The entire campus is covered with trees supporting the environment-friendliness of the engineering colleges. The campus is divided into five significant parts, the faculty residency, the student's accommodations, the sports complex, academic department, student activity centre, the lecture halls, the open-air theatre, the auditorium, and various departmental buildings.

I joined the bachelor's of technology in chemical engineering in the year 2019. The college takes entrance based on the Jee mains and the DASA for international students. NIT Jalandhar is one of the prestigious institutes of this country and hence this can be the best reason to join the institute. The course subjects are a bit less inclined towards chemistry, even being in chemical engineering don't imagine that you're going to be taught chemistry, cause you aren't. The college placement is almost a hundred per cent for chemical engineering. Hence this branch will be most helpful in getting a job.

The professors in the buildings are one of India's best and are very active in students' success. Overall if you couldn't get into an IIT and NIT is your best second option. First things first, if you're coming from coaching never expecting the profs to be like that, they will not spoon-feed you everything. They are highly qualified and educated and hope you to know the basics. Just imagine a public speaker is giving you a lecture, but he's a bit rude. All the senior professors are highly experienced, and the new generation of assistant professors are also experienced in their respective fields.

All the college branches' have been fair for some branches like chemical, mechanical, computer science, IT, and electronics and communication the placements have near a hundred per cent. The internship and placement cell of college works hard for the placements of students. Students are placed in national and multinational companies as well. Companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft also take students from the college placements, and the highest package can go up to 40 lakhs per annum.

Students can choose hostels or stay in a paying guest outside the campus on their own. The students who choose to live independently are provided with a bus service that moves throughout the city's signature spots. There are seven boy's hostels, one mega boy's hostel, and two girls hostels. If you're about to join the college in the coming three years, you might have accommodation problems in the first year, as four to five people are living in a room of five people. Although the roommates you get almost always stay with you throughout your college life.

There are two mega hostels in construction, one for boys and the other for girls, which would obliviate newcomers' shortage of space. All the hostels have their mess, and there is a separate mess for non-veg hostels. I was from BH-2 in my first year, and to my experience, it serves the best non-veg food among all the hostels of the campus. You'll be asked to change your hostel after completing every academic year, so be prepared to shift your luggage every year. P.S. this gives you a chance to clean your room yearly :)>

We have an efficient gym, and all the equipment is brand new, as of this year. We have a separate gymnasium which has four well-furnished wooden badminton courts. We have two lawn tennis courts that are mostly inhabited as only wealthy students can afford the game( just kidding, people play there). SAC is a beautiful five-story building which is a dedicated space for students to do anything, except exploding the place. The best part of this building is the snackers.

The recently opened restaurant that our college holds is the stopping point for every student of the college. There is always a doctor seated in the dispensary around the clock. There is a mural of captain jack sparrow on the OAT wall, and it also holds many other functions. The academic department is also famously called the “Gol building” of the campus because it is a polygon with more than ten sides. It has a beautiful park in front of it that makes a beautiful view when it rains. All the departments have their buildings which are well furnished and laden with all the necessary equipment. The lecture halls are newly made and equipped with all the modern facilities.

Campus Life is not entirely given by the campus you have but the people you meet on that campus. When you enter this college and spend a week or week two, you find people like yourselves. People with your mentality and some will share their pillow with you (they're the rare ones). College is all about friends, life and at last career.

Everyone gets one shot at college, and none of us knows how to make it right, it is when we have lived that moment after we do not regret anything that has happened in the entire span of four years. I'd say, live your college life freely, enjoy with your friends, go on trips, and love the student life because there's nothing like it. This college has given me everything I had been expecting from a college, and I hope it'll give you much more than your expectations after joining the family of NITJ.
