Umeschandra College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and accredited by NAAC at level B. The college offers only B.Com (General) and B.Com (Hons.) to its students.

Admission to this college is purely based on the marks obtained in plus 2 levels. Our college has received awards and honors from Calcutta University for its good performance. It has now 2 branches one which is in College Street and the other which is on Salt lake. Admission to the college begins just after the results are out for class 12 students. The whole admission procedure is made online and the candidate must fulfill the cutoff criteria for getting admission to the college. Talking about the College Management structure, Student Unions play a very important role. They are extremely good and helpful towards the students. Also, office staff and teachers are there to provide support whenever required.

I have joined the B.Com (hons) course which is a three year undergraduate program. Eligibility totally depends on the marks obtained by the student in class 12. The college does not conduct any entrance exam for students and the admission is totally upon the cutoff criteria. I being a CS student thought it as the best option to join B.Com as my undergraduate course as its course structure is somewhat similar to the professional course I am enrolled in.

The subjects and course are totally up to the expectation and they are set by the Calcutta University. Students passing B.Com (hons) have a wide scope in future. They can go for masters or any other professional course or simply they can hunt for jobs in the role of accountant, customer executive, audit assistants, tax departments and many more.

There are more than 30 permanent teachers and many visiting faculties who are experts in different subjects like economics, accounts, maths and other. These teachers have approximately more than 10-15 year's if experience as a professor and some visiting faculties are even teaching for more than 30 years. Most of the professors have the qualification of masters, B.Ed and even PhD in their specific field of interest. The teachers have wide skill and knowledge about their subject and they are well informed about the changes in course structure.

Placement cell in our college is good for students who have done well in their semester exams and have good communication skills. Top companies like TCS, Reliance, Bandhan Bank, are the ones who visit for campus placement. Highest package provided was around Rs. 5 lacs per annum and average package was around Rs. 3 lacs per annum.

Percentage of students who were recruited through campus placements is not many since most of the students in our college are enrolled with professional exams. However from both the campus more than 15 students were selected by the top companies mentioned above.

Our college does not provide hostel facility to its students however there are many PGs near our college area where students from another state stay. Yes, girls and boys have separate rooms. The PGs here take an amount of 18-20k from students providing them stay and food facilities (lunch and dinner).which are of good quality.

Our college has a library where the internet association is accessible, and students can undoubtedly concentrate in the library which also has a great collection of books from various field. In our college, there is a reasonable canteen where a great deal of food both veg and non veg is accessible for students.

Clinical rooms and rest rooms are also available in our college and there is a typical room called as sports arena where students can unwind and play some indoor games like tennis, carrot, chess, ludo, racket, pool and many more. Playground in the 1st campus is relatively smaller than the Salt lake campus which has a big playground. Regularly workshops are also conducted related to commerce, general knowledge, professional life, corporate life.

Overall campus life in our college is great. There are various clubs made by Students Union which students can join. Students Union also arranges many competitions for students. There is a fresher party for all new students, holi, teachers’ day celebration along with sports day, children day and staff meet. Our college is a great place where people want to learn and improve. Teachers and collage staff are always ready for face to face interaction.
