IIT (ISM) Dhanbad which was previously known as Indian School of Mines was established in 1926 and was founded as an IIT in 2016. It has been carrying a legacy of 97 years in every region like academics, extra / co-curricular, sports, research, and placements too. Now coming to the reel to the real college review. The college has a great bonding between directly from your immediate seniors to final years and fresher. IIT ISM Dhanbad has one of the maximum numbers of sports played among all the IITs which include swimming, squash, lawn tennis, hockey, and all the majorly played sports. IIT ISM Dhanbad has the Asia's second largest technical library and is filled with all the facilities you could think of. Its ground floor is equipped with multiple food courts and stationary. It has 3 floors of library equipped with every technical book and a floor completely dedicated for studying i.e. a study hall. It has 2 grounds, an Upper Ground and a Lower Ground lighted with multiple flood lights. It has 3 lawn tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, and Student Activity Centre (SAC) which is a place to all the indoor activities and clubs like dancing, music, literary and debating, comedy, karate, chess, weightlifting, boxing, gym, table tennis, robotics, badminton, and what not. Its heritage building is an eye-catching and a beautiful place to walk around, attached with a lot of emotions of this college's alumni. The most go to places are RD, Amul and Library (don't misinterpret). RD is a chai-tapri where all juniors and seniors chill and interact, Amul is another place to hang out and eat. The Library's ground floor is filled with food courts where you can eat.

The academics here are one of the toughest among all the IITs, but for fresher students its pretty chill if you are ready to focus in classes. The exams at IIT ISM are held in same fashion as any other IIT i.e. Quiz 1, Mid-sem, Quiz-2, and End-sem. The research facilities are also pretty good as it has one of the best per faculty productivity. In 2016 it had the best per faculty productivity among all the IITs which was 4.33.

The faculties at IIT ISM Dhanbad are good but you will eventually be bored of them, most of the students tend to sleep in classes or do write the practical. With a humongous grant, great infrastructure and the most productive faculty in the country, it is implied that IIT(ISM), Dhanbad is extremely great for research and it surpasses quite a few IITs in the sheer number of research publications each year.

IIT ISM Dhanbad placement statistics have been phenomenal. The placements for B.Tech are best for CSE, ECE, Petroleum Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Engineering physics. The highest package in B.Tech was 55.75 LPA in CSE and highest median package was 22 LPA in Integrated M.Tech. in MNC.

There are total of 11 Hostels in IIT ISM Dhanbad and which are named after gemstones i.e. Amber Hostel, Aquamarine Hostel, Jasper Hostel, Topaz Hostel, Diamond Hostel, Emerald Hostel, Sapphire Hostel, Old & New Rosaline Hostel, Ruby Hostel, Opal Hostel International Hostel, and Senior Academic Hostel.

The college has a vintage feel so its building has an accent of red and pale yellow. The heritage building and Oval Garden are the signature spots. The new hostels like Aquamarine are built really well; it’s a 13 floor apartment structure in shape of a fish. The new Rosaline is also well built and is the best hostel in the college.

The campus life at IIT ISM Dhanbad is filled with joyful, exciting and exhilarating fests and events. There are mainly four fests in IIT ISM are Concetto: Tecno-Management Fest, Srijan: Cultural Fest, Khanan: Geomining Fest, and Parakram: Intercollege Sports Fest. Many famous celebrities visit our college and host night shows and EDM nights during these festivals, singers like Darshan Raval, Mohit Chauhan, Arya Salvi, etc. and comedians like Vaibhav Sethia, Gaurav Kapoor, etc. and DJs. Many guest speakers attend our college during these fests like Vijendre Singh Chauhan, Anubhav Dubey, and many more.
