M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women

M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women was established in 1992 by Dewan Bahadur M.O.P. Aiyengar Charities. It is dedicated to women's empowerment and giving higher education to all women. The college has an affiliation with the University of Madras and has a student base of more than 3800 students. The college has been recognized by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) as A++ on the grade scale.

The college initially started only with B.Com, BBA, and B.Sc.  Now the college is offering 15 undergraduate courses and 8 postgraduate courses in Commerce Department, Communication Department, and Media Studies. For example, B.Com, BBA, and B.Sc in mathematics and computer sciences are also offered at the college. The college also provides BA, BCA, and B.Sc in psychology.

The college admits students on the basis of previously studied subjects for the courses for which they want to appear. The willing students can submit the application form on the college’s website. After filling out the form, the applying candidate has to wait for 10 days.  Then the list is generated and the successful applicants will be contacted through SMS or email.  The college will arrange a video call for the student and the parents with the principal or the HOD of the college to explain in brief the course detail. If the student is satisfied with the explanation, they will be asked to upload some necessary documents.

Eligibility criteria for the following courses are mentioned below:

1. Undergraduate Courses:

• B.Com: Should have passed XII standard from commerce stream. The major subjects studied are Business Studies, Accountancy with or without Mathematics as per the requirement of the course.
• BBA: Should have passed XII standard from commerce stream. Business Studies, Accountancy with Mathematics as primary subjects are required.
• B.Sc: Should have passed XII standard with Science stream and subjects as per the requirement of the desired course.
• BCA: Should have passed XII standard with any stream and maths as primary subject.
• BA: Should have passed XII standard from any stream with Economics as the compulsory subject.

1. Postgraduate Courses: The applicants have to first clear the college entrance test for a PG degree.

• MBA: Applicant should have any UG degree with valid Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET)/MAT.
• M.Com: Should have B.Com or BBA UG degree in any stream.
• M.Sc: Should have a UG degree as per the desired course requirement.
• MA: Should have any UG degree in any stream.

Vaishnav College for Women gives students government or non-government scholarships on the basis of the individual's need or on basis of the merit.

The scholarships provided are as followed:

1. Management Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by the college itself. The scholarship covers tuition fees, travel expenses, food expenses, and industrial visits. This scholarship is applicable only for the students taking admission in 1st year. The student is eligible for the Management scholarship under the following circumstances:

• Must have received an offer letter from the college.
• Should not have any ongoing scholarship.
• Must have gained the minimum attendance required.
• If the student has an excellent CGPA, is differently abled, or achieved 1st or 2nd position in sports.

Other than the scholarships, students can avail financial assistance from Earn While You Learn Scheme by doing the 100 hours (after the classes). Management works of the college such as in the Library, Admin Office, Record Rooms, etc. is done in the scheme.

The eligibility criteria for availing this scheme are:

• Must have received an offer letter from the college.
• Should not have any ongoing scholarship.
• Must have gained the minimum attendance required by the college.
• The student should have attained at least a CGPA of 6.
• Must not have a household income of more than Rs. 1,20,000 per annum.
