MATS Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship PGDM Review By Sujata Narkhede

Mats Institute or MIME is a great college if you want to pursue PGDM. Just like many other B-Schools, MIME too provides majors in all the subjects such as HR, Marketing, and Finance. Other than this they also have a specialized subject called IB (International Business). Well, the best part is that being a part of Jain University, I actually got a direct admission as not my any entrance score was great, nor did I scored well in my UG. They did keep me waiting for a while but finally gave a nod and I was asked to come and pay the fees. The rising job prospect compelled me to go for an MBA otherwise I was fine with BBA. The 360 degrees approach is what makes MIME different that the others. My cousin got admission at IIM-Bangalore and we used to discuss what their college teaches and our colleges go about the business. There were hardly any similarities as in MIME theory is actually put into practice and therefore it wasn’t much of a load. I am not saying MIME is better than IIM but just saying the basic difference. MIME knows the people who have come to their college are the ones who have failed to get admissions elsewhere. Thus they don’t give much steam on studies alone.

They believe in practicals and therefore we had practical sessions almost daily. Everything that was taught inside the classrooms was put into test. This made learning easy and also helped understand the basics. For MBA students being a part of other activities can be a dream but not at MIME. Everything is easy-peasy and that is why you will find MIME students participating in many fests and events of Jain University. To give us industrial exposure the college has tied up with various foreign Universities and a part of the international tour the institute takes us on a voyage to Singapore.

Some of the faculty members were recently passed out ones and on the first-look that did piss me off. This is why it is said that don’t judge a book by its cover. The University has a reputation and even the teachers have to go through several tests before they are finally allowed to take the lectures. One that has gone through a process to finally become a teacher at MIME, answer the question regarding faculty. All the faculty members were great and the best part was they themselves engaged with us and we didn’t have to make any efforts to take notice of our work.

Fortunately after missing the cut last time around the University finally landed me a job but in Hyderabad. No problem, at least I had from the campus because some of the students were unlucky again. The placement is decent at MIME as the majority of us got placed. The numbers count as they were relatively lesser. There were some 20 companies and MIME being one of the oldest B School of Jain group the companies have shown faith and the ones that can be seen every year at the campus includes HDFC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Deloitte, and Infosys.

This is where Jain University has done a PhD. Building hostels separately from the campus as the MIME campus is also small. The hostel again is some km away and there are just 2 buildings. I have just seen it from the outside and don’t have any idea how it is from the inside.

Initial plan of the University was to take MIME to Jain Global Campus. Thankfully they didn’t do that or else no one would have joined. Having said that MIME is a single building campus but the one that is fully equipped. The classrooms are air-conditioned and almost all the rooms be it library or auditorium room, they all are air-conditioned. There are 3-4 labs including computer and micro lab. There is also a seminar hall that was used for practice for events and joint sessions. That was more or less the go-to place because if the lectures are postponed the only place to go at the campus was that. To take the tiredness of the students the University has made sure that they have a cafeteria because the canteen was pathetic. I wish I could boast MIME infra like I did for main campus as this campus has nothing exceptional to flaunt.

Events are a part of JGI group and that were also evident at MIME. If there are no events they will call-up some star personality for a lecture but no month at MIME can go by without any event happening. Sometimes had to push myself that yes we are a part of the PGDM course and it’s not that easy. At the end of the day, the lectures started pushing for the syllabus as they knew they were behind. Being a part of events or sometimes only for cheering, the alumni meet and the convocation everything about the institute was so whelming that even though I don’t think the institute rank high in numbers but in my book will always be there at the top.
