MATS Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship PGDM Review By Ankita Singh

Jain University has started a new campus in Jayanagar that offers the PGDM course. The campus was built in 2010 and MIME is the place where I spent the two most beautiful years of my life. Trust me I am not just saying academic wise but the kind of facilities and the learning that PGDM program provided was just great. The institute gave me a lot of exposure and freedom that helped me grow. As a student MIME also gave me a lot of exposure to showcase my singing ability as well. I am graduated from Mount Carmel College but the eligibility to be honest for taking admission to this college is absolutely nothing. Even if you have passed your graduation with 50% plus and ready to shell out Rs. 8 lakhs, you are in the college. MIME is itself a University that is managed by Jain University. I am currently working as a teacher in yet another prominent college in Bangalore, and I got that job because I had a degree from MIME.

Not just classrooms but the kind of knowledge that MIME gives outside the class is the one I will talk about. PGDM was started by the University in 2002 and I was a part of their 14th batch. The college is not that strict but yes discipline is required. The University has a unique way and they not just make us be a part of theoretical sessions but timely organize events and also host a range of extra-curricular activities so that student life can be enhanced. To make learning creative and interesting the institute gives more importance to practical. Not just academics but the clubs and forums will make sure the overall development of students. One thing that the college did great was organizing an international trip to Singapore to give us international exposure. The fees for that were separately charged though.

Faculties are not that experienced but one will have to give them the benefit of the doubt. All the faculty members made sure that every concept of management studies is crystal clear to the students. More than strict teachers they became our mentors and did their best to enhance our personality development. I was shy and hardly spoke but the faculty members made me stand up every day in the class and explain something or the other. That built confidence in me and is perhaps the reason why I am a teacher today. Their unique teaching methods are something that has helped me overcome all my fears.

This is the one thing where the Jain group has not done well. The course fees were 8 lakhs plus 1.5 lakh hostel fees and the jobs that few of us were offered were in the range of Rs. 4-5 lakhs. Some banking companies, the big 4 and MNC’s like HP, Dell, and Siemens have been the prominent recruiters since the inception of this campus. I am not sure but some 70-80% of students got the placements. The placement cell was active and also took note of students depending upon their skill set. All of this vanished when the companies toured our campus. Students who did specialization in International management were hired by accounting companies and students who did in finance were hired by IT companies. Anyways all done and dusted I am at a place where I always wanted to be.

The institute provides a hostel facility for boys and girls. There are 2 separate buildings at a distance of 1 mile from the campus. The hostel fee is 1.5 lakhs which is too high. I didn’t stay in the hostel but just visited once. The girl's hostel has some 40 rooms and the boy's hostel some 10-20 more as that building is a little bigger. The rooms don’t even have ACs but are spacious. Two separate sets of beds, cupboards, and study tables for each of the students staying in the hostel. The security at the hostel is fine and the curfew times need some respect as the hostel is quite strict.

The campus is small as it has 2 buildings and parking space. There’s no sports ground or a park like they have on some of their other campuses. The Jain University is good at providing sporting opportunities but I don’t know why they have built this Jayanagar campus so small. The building is new and the classrooms are airy. The digital library at MIME was I believe the first digital library in Bangalore. Others followed the suit and now you have digital libraries in all the decorated colleges of Bangalore. The college also has a cafeteria and canteen. The micro lab of the institute is something that I have never seen before. The large sofas with a seating capacity of 60 students have been installed on the second floor of the college building. In all the institute area is small but have all the facilities apart from a sports ground.

From fresher’s party to Alumni meet (Milan) every event that happened at the campus was something. The share market game that we were given special sessions on weekends was again something very special. The convocation day that was held 6 months after we passed out was the last time I had the opportunity to visit the institute where I have spent some of the most memorable days of my life.
