Dwarkadas Jivanlal Sanghvi College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Aditya Ryaka

The very reason for choosing this college was ranking, it is ranked the among top engineering colleges in Mumbai. The average placement record of DJ Sanghvi has been pretty decent. Also it is located in Vile Parle West which is closer to people from the central as well as the western line. The college has AC classrooms and decent infrastructure (No ground). The courses provided are: Computer Science, IT, Mechanical, EXTC, AIML, AIDS, IOT, DS, etc. The cut-offs for general category are pretty high, however if you belong to Gujarati quota you can get a relaxation in cut-offs. The college has many clubs and committees. The year is packed with events from various such clubs. Overall the college environment is thriving and enthusiastic. However at times the academics and attendance might cause issues. The college has mandated 75% attendance. The college also offers honors and minors in further semesters in various diverse subjects. The faculty experience differs from department to department. The experience with faculty regarding teaching is average. The most valuable thing you get is your peers. Crowd of DJ Sanghvi is very helpful. This institute is autonomous but is affiliated with the university of Mumbai and hence runs on similar regulations as other colleges.

I had enrolled in the Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning course. My batch is the first batch which will pass out with this degree. The eligibility for this course is obviously good MHT-CET scores or JEE scores. The cutoffs for B.Tech AIML have been increasing every coming year. The cutoff for year 2021 was around 97 for general category. Last year it was around 98. AIML is a booming sector in the IT industry and therefore it was a primary choice. However the college also offers new courses like Data Science, Cyber Security with IOT, etc. The curriculum up to third semester is almost same as the Computer science and after that it delves deep into ML. Good of understanding of statistics is required. The semesters and mid terms are NOT to be taken lightly. I would advise students to work hard right from the first semester so that they don't fail or get low CGPA. Overall the course is very exciting and challenging. If you love exploring new things and learning from the internet this course is best suited for you.

The faculties are decent in teaching. Some of them were pretty good and exciting. Most of them are helpful to students. We often reach out to them regarding academic issues and they try their best to resolve it. But some of them are real nasty characters. One of my professors left an entire module for self study because she was irritated and disturbed for a few minutes in class by students who were talking during lecture. They do not provide question banks or weightage of topics or types of questions. And even if they do, on the exam they will ask questions way different than what was taught in the class. Most of the practical or term work marks are given by looking at the student's face. They see if he/she looks studious. All my internal marks I have received way lesser than my friends who had not even completed their term work. Attendance is a major headache from faculties. They say they won't provide attendance more than 5% even if you have serious medical problem. Although it is a university mandate, it is what it is. The faculty expects us to be superhuman and do everything. Overall I would say if good teaching or excellent faculty is what you are looking for then this isn't the right place.

Placements in the college have been very less in the last year. The TPO guy is very moody and thinks of himself as the king. They don't provide any internship during the course. They don't provide any guidance for students going for placement or masters. They are partial to other departments and only pamper computer and IT departments.

The college doesn't provide any hostel facility.

The campus is just one building. That all. There is no ground, no walking space, no greenery, all the campus pictures you have in mind will be broken to pieces when you enter this institution. The building has a small seminar hall which can have 200 people. The floors have respective departments. Some floors have been renovated so they are pretty good. Some are shit. The washrooms are shit on some floors. The water dispensers are available everywhere. There are two lifts. The one good thing about this college is labs. The labs are well maintained and have good amount of systems which work. However it lacks higher end machines which required for AI model development. The classrooms are good. They tend to optimize the available space and thus sometimes during break we don't get any empty classrooms to eat our food. The canteen is small but decent. The food from the canteen is decent. Library is very good. We get most of the books necessary for the course in the library. Also the online library services which give access to research papers and paid journals for free is the best.

The campus life for DJ will be pretty dull. If you are expecting enjoying and rocking the four years of college then let me humble you. The college boasts of many clubs and committees. Some make cars, some make rovers, some make planes, some hold hackathons, some are into AI stuff, some are into literature, and general things. There a diverse committees and events go on for the entire year. The events however are small scale and do not go beyond 2-3 classrooms. The only one event by the official college committee is Trinity which holds concerts or large scale events once a year. Some committees also get the opportunity to travel various places for competitions. Also managing extracurricular like these and academics is difficult and the faculty doesn't always support you.
