D. Y. Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi M.Tech Review By Amrit Meghwal

Unlike my previous college at DY Patil College Akurdi you can find students from all across the country. The student interaction was great and every bit of my time that I spent at DY Patil College Engineering was just amazing. There may be campuses better than DYPCOE but can’t be more decorated than this college. The fountains, the graffiti’s, the student’s corner, everything was just splendid about the college. Since I analyzed the pattern that is followed in Gujarat’s engineering college and the ones is Pune, I can bet Pune is far better and is called Cambridge of East for a reason. Most of the engineering colleges today have become shops but DY Patil Akurdi. The fees and all are at the higher end but at least they provide the kind of education that can help students in future. It has helped me and many more such students who were just like me as they hardly knew anything about engineering. Fault was not ours as the college we chose was the issue but DY Patil College of Engineering Akurdi doesn’t just have PG courses but also has equally good graduation department as well. My aim at the college was not just to study but to introspect and my conclusion is clear that Pune for engineering.

The main area for any college has to their academics. The college not just gives importance to the academic section but also make sure they empower students by giving their own freedom. In PG practical’s become more important and that is why a little leniency was given in respect to attendance. We were allowed to wear anything in the classrooms. We were also allowed to take a coffee mug while the classes were on this is how the study pattern was at DY Patil. The college gave us all the freedom in the world and after one and a half hours 5 lectures on a trot and 2-3 hours of practicals the college made sure that maximum learning should happen in classes itself. The approach and the student handling was done with calamity.

Faculty was strict but was good. The teaching was of optimal levels. All the professors had a solitary way of teaching. All the faculty members were highly educated and have seen ups and downs and changes in the syllabus as per industry requirements. Hence, they helped us in the best possible way and were also very punctual. They were always on time and most importantly they knew how to teach students.

Mechanical may not be the best branch but placements were great. The highest package was Rs. 20 Lakhs per annum and average was 12 LPA. During 2019 batch placements of our batch were 100%. Writing almost 100% can be a safe answer but my introspective nature made me ask each one of my batch mate and what I saw was that each one of us had placement offer.

DYPCOE has 5 hostel buildings and are common for UG and PG students. For PG students rooms were available on single to triple sharing basis and DY Patil Akurdi Hostel Fees depends on number of students sharing the rooms. The hostel was some 100meters from the admin building and it hardly took 2-3 minutes to reach classes from hostel. The hostel mess though was pathetic. Luckily we were allowed to come back by 10pm and I had dinner outside daily. Not just me but almost all of us. Other than that though the hostel had all the facilities from common area to a study area which was like a mini library. The rooms just didn’t have ACs but other than the furniture and the lightings were all functional.

In Pune, I don’t think any other college can even come close to DYPCOE in terms on infrastructure. The whole campus was Wi-Fi and had a computer center with over 100 computers for sure. The computer center was air-conditioned and so were all the labs at the college. For programming and projects students had to mandatorily used the computer center as all the files were uploaded from the computer center itself. The library had books of all disciplines and the quantum of books was humongous. From syllabus books to daily newspapers and journals, the library had it all. The world class auditorium named Shantai Auditorium was again a compulsory thing. If all the engineering students had a common subject the classed were taken in auditorium. The guest lectures and felicitation function were also held in the same auditorium. In the middle of the campus there’s an amphitheater where all the cultural fests and other small or big events were organized. The college canteen was decent but I only had coffees and cold drinks as the food was below par. Sporting facilities has more or less become a mandatory option not for students but for the institutes. Hence our college had a great football ground, basketball court and an air-conditioned badminton hall.

My life at DY Patil Campus was arguably one of the best. I made n number of friends and interacting with students of other states was some fun. There were many non-technical and technical societies at the college. I was a part of various clubs as it helped me develop my personality. The carnival or the one week long cultural fest was awesome. My memories of DYPCOE are fresh and I reckon they will remain fresh forever.
