D. Y. Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi M.Tech Review By Tejas Chotaliya

I believe I was made for the best as it takes a lot to get a berth in DYPCOE. A lot of people from Gujarat have started coming to Pune and I followed what most of my seniors did and that was to come to Pune for PG. Dr. D. Y. Patil is again the best self-financed college in Pune and the awards that are awarded to college almost every year make it certain as well. The ones who don’t get admission here can consider it as sour grapes but one of the best things happened to me thus far is being an alumnus of D. Y. Patil group. DYPCOE, Akurdi is the top and most sought-after college of DY Patil Vidyapeeth as a whole. The campus had 2 engineering college building out of which one is old and the new one is for the PG students. The building is new and it’s the Arvind Smart Space that has built the new building. Pune might turn into a smart city at some point but D. Y. Patil new building for sure is a smart space that has all new modern infra at its quest.

In terms of the quality of academics, it was substantial. Since the infra is modern so were the rules. There was absolutely no rule as I started attending the college in formals, from that I shifted to T-shirt and jeans and finally started going to the classes in Capris. The college was cool as they were clear you can wear what you are comfortable at. One can leave the lecture in-between and the professors will be cool with that. The practicals in mechanical hold importance that no other stream does and therefore we had a mechanical workshop which was used for all the project works.

All of them were aged but were 18 at heart. They knew about all the latest in the world and every suggestion from students end was welcomed. They never died down on students if they had reservations against their style of teaching. The attendance was marked by them but even if you have failed to have the required, the faculty will first ask you the reason for less attendance and if the answer is satisfied, your actual attendance will never reach the management. This is how cool the faculty was and one that I enjoyed spending time with.

We had great placement opportunities as the placement officer's co-ordination with students was great. Pre-placement training went on for weeks during the third semester and before the final semester, we all had a job in our hands. The companies from all sectors were present at the campus and the average placement was 10Lakhs which was better than any other engineering colleges in Pune. The placement quotient of the college has made it the first choice college among students and a remote village Akurdi has now become an education hub of Pune.

The hostel was optional and after already staying for 4 years at the hostel, I decided to stay outside. There are both boys and girls hostel and are shared by graduate and postgraduate students. The hostel hasn’t garnered positive reviews and that was enough for me to try for accommodation outside the college campus. There are a lot of reasonably priced PGs and flats available. To enjoy life in Pune along with studies it is better to have a private accommodation as the hostel was good otherwise but the food was not meant for students coming from other states.

One-half of it is a little older while the one that has constructed off late is just awesome. I saw some 3-4 colleges of Pune including D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth and one can’t deny the fact DYPCOE is the best in reference to infrastructure. No tall structures but small buildings with a different set of facilities like one building is dedicated entirely for cafeteria and one for library gave a different feel to the campus. The labs in particular and our building labs which were air-conditioned made us go there over and again. Review on infrastructure will not be done without writing a few words about Shantai Auditorium. During one of the events the ex-alumni were invited and even they envied that this auditorium can be compared to an international airport lounge, it was that beautiful and huge. Besides new auditorium, there is also an old auditorium called Dnyanaprasad Sabhagrah which has half the size of Shantai auditorium.

Pune itself is a charming place and even though the college is located in a different municipality called Akurdi, the location is still better than many top cities. At the campus we had the opportunity to interact with juniors, seniors and all of them had one thing in common and that was to achieve something in life. The college has laid the standard high as the dropout ratio after the first year is quite high. If one is at the college to study, he will also gain knowledge and enjoy life at the same time. I did for sure and so will you if you are smart enough to get the admissions here.
