SRM University Kattankulathur BBA Review By Ajay Chaudhary

SRM University Kattankulathur in the last so many years have had many students from my town and following their footsteps, I also applied for the BBA entrance of the SRM University. The entrance is tough and is not the only way to get enrolled in their BBA program but that is the legitimate way of getting there. Management studies have always been on my mind ever since I chose commerce as my specialized subject after 10th. The University is a city in own considering the kind of facilities and the number of students that are there on the campus. Not just students but the campus also has accommodation facilities for the staff members as many of them stay there only. SRM Kattankulathur is known for engineering courses and BBA is not that famous but the University has taken care of each department quite well and BBA is therefore no less. The only negative that I can have from SRM is that the fees are quite high and some fees are unnecessarily charged.

Great classrooms and best teachers to teach the students. The course was well advanced than many private Universities of India and the best part was we only had 4 compulsory subjects and the rest 2 subjects we had to choose between 6 subjects. We had ample choices in terms of what we wanted to study and the course had covered almost all the area of business studies. However, the University stole money for providing books as each year’s book costs us 20k plus and every 2-3 year they change something in the syllabus and therefore we are left with no choice but to buy the books. Many engineering students even protested and the University then allowed them to buy a book or arrange books on their own.

They were knowledgeable and along with that, they were also quite strict. The only issue was that some of the professors never wanted to hear student’s points of view and if you dare to raise issues on their point means you have literally signed your warrant. Even I had to pacify some of them even though I wasn’t wrong but had to pay the price for questioning them as my future was in line. This was the case with just a couple of them as the rest others were so friendly and used to do kiddish stuff with us. You are never on your own at SRM as the professors had well planned the academic structure and went to the business as per that.

The placement is a byproduct and the kind of industrial tie-ups that the college has placement and internships were taken care of. Nearly 70% of students got placed as the University managed the companies to land at the campus but clearing their interviews was the individual’s duty. We were asked to take up an industrial training program but again for that we had to pay separately and many students avoided that. Companies like MRF TVS, TVS Srichakra, Murugappa Group, and Indian Cement were the front runners. The average package was in-between 3-5 lakhs.

There are 3 boys hostel and each of them had over 100 rooms. Depending upon what we could pay, we could opt in terms of room sharing and the kind of food we will have. SRM Kattankulathur hostel rooms were stellar and so were the other facilities but after paying 75k mess fees, I think they should take care of the food department. Even after paying that many fees, at least twice or thrice in a week, I managed food from outside or the University canteens. Besides the boy's hostel, there is also an NRI hostel and a huge girl’s hostel on the campus. The facilities of the NRI hostel are as good as 3-5 star hotels.

SRM Kattankulathur Campus is huge that has almost all the facilities one could have imagined in terms of a University. If you want to take a tour of the entire campus it might take a couple of hours. There are endless buildings and you will feel like you are in some smart city as all the buildings are hi-tech. The entire campus is Wi-Fi and you can access the net from any area of the campus. All the indoor rooms like the library, indoor sports area, and the auditorium are all so lavish that one feels likes going there over and again. There are also large sports fields and if one is a sports fanatic, he/she has the opportunity to learn whichever sports they want as the University has designated special coaches for each sport. The college has canteens, a cafeteria, and restaurants so you hardly have to step out for food at least.

Students from all states and some foreign countries are studying in this college. If one still believes in the cliché that someone from the North can’t survive in the South then they should see this campus. We never felt like outsiders as there were no favoritisms inside the campus. Everyone was presented with equal opportunities and there were so many different clubs to learn from. From the foreign language club to the drama club each one had so many talented students that there was no shortage of talent inside the campus. The University was next level and along with pros, I have also shared some of the cons that it has.
