R.V. College of Engineering M.Tech Review By Deepak Luniwal

After doing my graduation from Sinhgad College of Engineering Pune, I came to Bengaluru as some of my friends relocated here. RV College of Engineering is one such institute where if you don’t wear an I Card, you will be asked to leave the campus. Hence either wear it like a proud RVian or don’t enter the admin building. The timing of the college was sharp 9 am and if you are a minute late, you will not be allowed to enter the classroom. Even post-graduate students couldn’t wear t-shirts as formal was the only stuff allowed in the classes. There are n numbers of rules in place and it seriously irritated me until I got used to it. This was the strict part but life at RV is fun too. You can choose any club of your choice from QuiZ Corp, Robotics, or Racing and the college will provide you numerous opportunities to represent them. Some of the extra ordinary students are what I met at RV and we used to tease each other saying Nerd. All I would say is that RV made me a responsible person as Pune made me a laid back and messy person.

Attendance has to be over 80% and if you don’t maintain that just one warning and you will be discarded to appear for exams. In graduate programs it isn't the same but for PG students you will have no option. We were not free on Sundays as the college used all the extra time that student had to make them study. Half of the money what my parents used to send me was spent on getting the reports and notes printed. The college is too strict and there is no hiding from academics. Most of the students or should I almost all of them were nerds and therefore this system has worked for RV.

If one has to learn how to make life hectic the RV college faculty can try a crash course for that. They were simply outstanding in that. That’s half the story as showing students their potential strength was also a drill done by the professors and we knew what we are capable of as an engineer. Some of the faculty members have prior experience of working at the ISRO and that speak about the volumes of the kind of experience they have. The one thing that they taught us was making winning a habit and I will thank my professors for that.

This is one of those colleges that understands why Mechanical students shouldn’t be placed to IT companies. We as a mechanical student got placed in capital goods companies where we could actually contribute. We were trained hard and the faculty took the matter in their hands to train us for the same. We all were offered placement and the average placement was around Rs. 8-9 lakhs. Highest one grabbed the package worth Rs. 22 Lakhs and was felicitated in front of the entire strength of the college by the Principal. RVCE Placements are great and the best part is that core sector domain placements are provided to the students.

There are 4 boys hostels and are divided in terms of which year you are studying. I had to change the hostel both the year as the first year PG students were provided accommodation at Cauvery block and final year PG students had their rooms reserved at Sir M. Visweswaraya block. The girls hostel is not inside the campus and is rather more beautiful than boys hostel as they are constructed recently. RV College Hostel didn’t provide anything other than bed and fans and all the other items we had to bring ourselves. This was weird but in a way better as we could bring things of our choices rather than what college provides. The dining area was common for all the boys’ hostel and luckily we had a variety of menu that helped me survive even with an average quality food for 2 years.

A 53 acres campus that had some old buildings and stuffs while some latest and innovative things like Rain water harvesting. Also the sewage water treatment plant and they were also planning to start solar panels as well. They believe in innovation and that is why most of the area of the campus was under construction. There are many lawns inside the campus and over 40-50 dustbins are installed to make sure that the students don’t litter in the campus. The health center was renovated recently and is available for all from morning to night. Emergency ambulance is also there at the campus. There are 2 sports ground and the college football team has always done well at the University level in Bangalore. Hence, if you want to get away with classes then learn few tricks of football as that’s the only way of escaping such high attendance demand.

The quality of the students that study at RV is best to none. Studies of course the most important thing but I saw a lot of UG students there were perhaps quite happy as they said life was equally fun because as a PG student we hardly got time. The annual cultural fest 8th Mile lasted for 2 weeks and almost every day we used to have a DJ night.
