Ramaiah Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Ankush Chavan

Bangalore is a dream city for engineers and in search of a great career, I joined Ramaiah Institute of Technology. Life at MSRIT was pretty much chilled out as you can take time for other important things and still you can easily get away with semesters and internals. Students from all across the country here and all are open-minded students who are ready to share their UG experiences. However, some of them were marks centric and all they did was studies throughout. The college location is central Bangalore and the hostel timings were also 10.30 pm so I used to hang out with my friends and Orion Mall which is located near the college was our favorite hangout spot. The BMTC buses were available just outside the college and you can go to any part of the city without changing the bus. For me it was not just the college but my aim was to explore my dream city as much as I could and this is why I am mentioning all this. All I knew was I had nothing to worry about as the professors were great and helpful.

4 semesters and so much fun that academics never took the backseat but was never the driving force as well. English was the common language at the campus and that helped me build confidence while speaking English. This was an important aspect other than the studies that I learned at this college. The style of studies was a lot different as internals every month and all that added in internals means we had to be at par with the syllabus every month. Even when I knew I haven’t done well, my marks ever said so as the professors tried to give us maximum numbers so that we don’t fear about the results.

Brighter than the moon and shining like pearls were the MSRIT Faculty. They were so friendly that one can get to terms with them immediately. They hardly spoke about the subjects after the classes but rather suggested the outsiders the places to visit in the city. If we had scored less at the internals we were called for assessment and were helped with extra classes so that at the semester exams we don’t mess up. The helpful nature of them made me their biggest fan and they were superstars for me in the true sense.

Bangalore colleges and placements go hand in hand. Ramaiah is one of the top engineering colleges in Bangalore and beyond that, the placement cell of the college is even wonderful. We were even asked why we didn’t take the placements after our graduation and all. All these questions were asked at the placement interview and luckily we were well prepared to answer those questions. There was nothing like dream companies as you may doubt but there were over 100 companies at the institute for placements. I was shocked because the choices also confused us and Unacademy being a start-up was not my first choice but was the first company I interviewed for. As a PG student, the package of 9 lakhs didn’t look worthy but the promised that were offered and the growth that the company has made in the 2 years of my joining has also increased my package by a great percentage. Start-ups are always a flavor at the placements and if you were to take my advice please join a start-up rather than an established firm if you want to reach the top at the earliest.

MSRIT hostel complex looked like an IT park as the building was so beautifully built and maintained that I never thought of saying elsewhere. The rooms were available on single to triple occupancy. The boy's hostel building had a statue of Swami Vivekanand at the front. I took the single occupancy room as the double occupancy rooms were already full and triple occupancy rooms didn’t have an attached bathroom. The hostel was inside the campus and it had a lot of rules in place but the deadline of 10.30 pm for reporting was a generous one. There was a large hall for dining as almost 500 students used to dine together. 3 days in a week we had a proper south Indian menu and I did miss Misal Pav but the tasty Medu Wada’s made it up for that for the breakfast.

The campus is spread across 25 acres but the college used each and every inch of the college. The reason why Bangalore is called the garden city is because people of Bangalore will never let a space empty as wherever they saw the empty space at the college they built a garden. We had a garden in front of the main block and then one besides the hostel building and one more garden behind the girl's hostel. The gym had over 50 machines including Treadmill, leg & calf machine, and multi-press machine, etc. The notable feature was the solar panel at the rooftop of each building. The auditoriums literally blew me off as there were 6 auditoriums. The Apex block auditorium was the biggest of them all with a seating capacity of 1000. There were 2 canteens and one of them served many North Indian dishes due to the large presence of North Indian students at the campus. All the blocks of the college had recreation rooms as well. I will keep writing but the facilities won’t end. The infrastructure was 10 on 10.

I am grateful that I didn’t just explore MS Ramaiah Engineering College but Bangalore as well and also settled here as this was my dream. The destiny took me here and the fun that I had at MSRIT was so immense that I will always be short of words.
