Ramaiah Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Vishal Saini

I decided to step out but put a condition before myself that I will leave my state only if I get admission to the best college. Ramaiah Institute of Technology Bangalore is without a doubt the best engineering college in Bangalore. Be it academics, placements, faculty, or the extra-curricular activities, MSRIT has no match. The college was so mesmerizing and its one year since I have passed out from the college and still has that hangover left in me. I am glad my friend approached me to do this review as I can share my perspective on how a student from the North feels at a college in the South. First of all, the North Indian student’s presence in the college is quite high and I never missed my people at the College. That’s one thing and one other thing was that students or shall I say top students from each state in India aspire to be a part of this college. I met students of various states for the first time in my life and have to say that I have met some of the sweetest people on the planet. MSRIT please get me over you because I am still not over you.

There’s no pattern at the college but a rather quick recap of the previous class and we are given time to ask doubts from that and if all are ok we move forward to the next topic. Luckily we don’t have to write notes or prepare notes as we have all the matter in our laptops provided by the college. The computer lab which was our 2nd classroom was something that I have never seen in my dreams. It was huge and it had blackboards and a screen where we were taught on how to program and we had to practice the same on PCs allotted to us. Students never had to wait for their turn as 3-4 classes can be organized at the same time because there were over 500 PCs at the computer lab.

Goodness me, they were so charming. As a student, I was attracted to their teaching style and was always before for the classes because I couldn’t miss them taking their starts and start the lecture. They were so addictive and friendly that I made friends with all my faculty members. As soon as the Corona struck and we were locked in our hostel rooms, the classes were organized through digital lab and faculty members did a fantastic job by providing a dropbox at the online portal where we could ask any questions and the faculty would answer them before the next class commences. I have never seen such a digital way of teaching and MSRIT faculty are so tech-savvy people that they adjusted to it a week after the lockdown.

Do I have to state the obvious here because this was the thing that brought me to the other side of India. Working in an IT company was a dream and MSRIT has not just full filled my dreams but there were many who even after graduation from MSRIT long back still thank the college for such a bright professional career. Luckily our internship was completed before the Covid-19 broke out and placements were also done through online interviews. MSRIT placement was 100% even in lockdown and that was more than commendable.

Mostly outsiders were the ones who study in this college and this is why the college has built a superb boys hostel that provides room on prorate basis I guess. Luckily I got a room but only a triple sharing room was left but I was fine as the other 2 students were also pursuing PG but different courses. MSRIT hostel had a study room, recreation room, and a TV room. I never thought that as a student I can have all these facilities but MSRIT believes so and provided students with the best of facilities. The in-time was 10.30 and college used to get over by 4 pm so we had enough time to enjoy shopping at malls or watching movies as the deadline was more than I would have asked. The food was great but South Indian food every other was a huge ask for me and I thought it wasn’t a bad option to try out some restaurants in Bangalore which I did because the food part was not that great.

MSRIT campus is jam-packed as there is hardly any empty space on the campus. Gardens, buildings, and then again garden. The Engineering department building was the biggest building on the campus as the department library and canteen was inside the engineering building. There were 2 other canteens as well and one was a proper multicuisine restaurant. Indoor sporting facilities were unimaginable and the gym can give a run for their money to fitness chains like Talwalkars or Chisel. The campus was so really beautiful and I feel like I am still a part of it.

South and North are poles apart when it comes to campus life. People hardly talk about studies at the university campus in the North while in the South students don’t want to get over studies it seems. Talking about the clubs there were plenty. If you are interested in social causes you had 4-5 clubs for that, if you have ambitions of becoming a part of the entertainment industry there are clubs for that. That’s not all even political clubs were there and students even practiced to be the leader of the country. Life at MSRIT campus was an experience of a lifetime and our convocation day is still left and waiting for the day when that will happen so that I can relive those moments again at the college.
