Shri Shikshayatan College is a women's college where thousands of girls come to study every year. It is affiliated under the University of Calcutta. Being a girl's college, the environment is quite disciplined and safe. The infrastructure of the college is top-notch. Each and every room has AC. Classrooms are equipped with mic and projector. Science labs have modern tools and computer labs also have branded computers, even Apple too. Other facilities include a library, a canteen, a swimming pool, a gym, a common room etc. The teachers here are highly qualified and their teaching method is also very inclusive. Overall this college ranks among the top in Kolkata. I chose this college due to the above mentioned factors and therefore I would suggest others the same.

The course B.Com (Honors) provides two specializations, one in Accounting & Finance and the other in Marketing. Up to 4th semester the syllabus for both is the same and 5th semester onwards you can choose your specialization. The college has both morning and evening batches for the course; you can choose what is best for you and fill the form accordingly. The curriculum followed for this course is specified by the University of Calcutta as the college is affiliated under the same. The syllabus is very vast, insightful and may appear challenging for some students to complete it within a semester. A semester is typically of six months, with exams held at the end of each semester. Each subject is of 100 marks, 80 being external and 20 being internal. The course also includes various projects and researches throughout the semesters. To enroll in this course, first you have to fill up the form in the college website. Few weeks after which the merit lists will be published. If your name appears in the merit list you can proceed further to the admission and fee payment process. The cut-off is generally around 80%, but different merit list is published for the SC, ST and OBC students. If you want to explore the field of finance or marketing then you can opt for this course. Also, for those students who want to pursue CA / CS / CMS alongside their graduation, this course is a suitable choice as the syllabus is similar to an extent. This college ranks among the top commerce colleges in Kolkata.

The faculty here is highly qualified and professional. Senior professors hold Ph.D degree and higher. While some junior teachers are themselves Ph.D candidates working as part-time lecturer. Classes are held regularly and the teaching method is also quite efficient. Though some students might find is difficult to keep up with the fast pace. Another con is that the number of students is too high and in comparison, teachers too less. But then again, this is a fault of the administration rather than the teachers. Despite this, the teachers are very cooperative and always try their level best to help the students even outside college hours.

Yes, we do have an active placement cell in our institute. Both internship and job opportunities are provided by the cell. In my batch 100+ students got placed in a semester. From big corporations to small start-ups, all kinds of companies come for recruitment, so that all kind of students get a chance to find placement. Major companies are Deloitte, PwC, TCS, Indigo, ICICI Lombard, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Alliance, KPMG, Oyo and many more. For jobs, highest package offered was 6LPA and lowest package was 1.2LPA, with average package being around 2.5L-3LPA. Internships generally offer around 8k to 20k per month. You are eligible to sit for placements in your final year, though in some cases earlier semester students and even pass out students can apply.

There are no residential facilities within the institute. However, the college does have some connection with the hostels and they help the outstation students find residence.

The infrastructure of this college is top notch. Each and every room of the college is air-conditioned. The classrooms are equipped with mic and projector. Both the science labs and the computer labs are equipped with latest tools and technologies. One computer lab even has Apple computers. The library is very strictly maintained and students are allowed access only by booking slots. It has a vast collection of books and is much organised. I have seen many students not buying books themselves and only using library books throughout the semesters. Though, I personally feel the stock of library has scope for improvement. There is a canteen but it only serves vegetarian food and the taste is also not that good. Other facilities include swimming pool, playground, garden, common room, yoga room, gym equipment etc. Overall the infrastructure is nice but the campus is very small compared to other famous colleges of Kolkata.

The overall campus life is moderate at the best, not very fancy. You might experience the feeling of being left out when compared to your friends of other colleges, since the college administration and faculty is mainly focused on academics. There are various intra-college events and competitions that are conducted regularly. There are many clubs and societies that you can join like the Debating Society, Entrepreneurship Cell, Cultural Society, Literature Society and so many others. Very interesting and high exposures are provided by these societies. But post-covid there has been no fest in our college. Overall the campus is very safe and strictly regulated. You can enjoy a peaceful college life but don't expect anything extraordinary.
