Shanti Business School PGDM Review By Rahul Thakkar

SBS has good name in Ahmedabad and students of SBS are called Shantian. I was mad about this college since my graduation years. However, the college is more about advertisements than reality. It is close to good but definitely can’t be called good as of now. The faculty were great as they were legends in their field and one thing that college has done well from the high fees that they take from us is hire, some of the best teachers for us. Among few positives that I can call out for the college are great faculties, corporate ready at the end of the course, excellent infrastructure, a nice mentorship program, and tech savvy. If there are positives then there are some negatives as well, Placements for MBA students are not up to mark, alumni network is not so strong, and last but not the least the high fees. The placements were less than the fees that they charged which was a little disappointing. There are many specialization areas for students in marketing like rural marketing, and marketing analytics. No restrictions were imposed on students and we can be as discrete as we want. SBS’s performance in top B-school’s competitions have been great and I will again credit the intelligent faculties for that.

Methodology is the term as like acting schools that produce method actors, SBS produces method management students. The percentage game was taught really which is the most important thing for Marketing students. Know the brand presence and evaluate the company’s performances as per that. Many students knew all these methods but I learned all of it here and more than anything, the college has made me taught how to think of everything as a sellable product. As a marketing student, this methodology development in us has made me good marketing employees for the firms we all are working in.

If legendary is not enough, I would call them veterans who have proved their worth even before coming to SBS. Most of the faculty who practice here have past experience of teaching in top B-Schools of the country. Faculties made the campus environment more than valuable to the students as they used every inch of the infrastructure to teach us. Their marketing gimmicks and learning practices were not just innovative but practical in making students understand the art of marketing. Out of quite a few positives about the college, Faculties were one of the biggest positives of the college.

The batch size was 180 and 150 got places. So, the percentage was good, in fact very good. However, they advertise that they have 100% placement record is not true. Anyways the placements were done in many large corporate houses of Gujarat. Companies like Aditya Birla Capital, HDFC, Deutsche Bank, Yes Bank, Nestle, PepsiCo, and BYJU’s have joined hands with the school. The worst part of all of this was that students were offered jobs worth 4 lakhs. Some students managed to bag phenomenal packages of 10-14 lakhs per annum but they were not even 10% of the students. The remaining had the jobs worth 4-5 lakhs. The fees for diploma in marketing is over 6 lakhs and jobs below that was definitely not expected.

There are hostels inside the campus both for boys and girls. The course is not a residential one and students mostly were from Ahmedabad. The hostel was still highly occupied as the facilities were amazing at the hostel as hostels had AC rooms as well. It was highly secured and had strict timings even for MBA students is all that I know.

The campus area was around 15 acres and along with business school, there’s also a school of this group in the same campus. The college’s location is one of the best as it is located near ring road. Commuting was as easy as anything and the college too had bus facilities for students coming from any part of the city. The college has a food-court that has multiple food joints along with a world class canteen. Just near the gate, there’s a Kotak Bank ATM. The college’s auditorium had some of the best lighting and sound facilities and students were invited to auditorium hall at least once in a week as it was not just used for college meets or events but also during the guest lectures which were quite potent here. Sports are played often on the campus and to make sure students come to ground the ground’s condition is always maintained. There are 2 gymnasiums in the campus and also an indoor sporting arena. The infrastructure without a doubt is at par with any B-school of India.

The college’s annual fest (Bauddhika) was next level. Students had no restrictions or rules as one thing that I forgot to mention yet was the progressive nature of the college. Students were set free and we were given the license to thrill. The fests were thrilling and the farewell party in which we were felicitated and the annual sports meet were well and truly amazing.
