Life in a IIT

Overall Rating
My overall experience in the institute is good as it is a government college having the best facilities as well as faculties. It offers a variety of degree like B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, etc. It also has various branches like Computer Science and Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Geology, ECE, EE etc.
 

Academics Rating
The course I am pursuing is Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. But in first year everybody has to follow same curriculum irrespective of branch. The admission in the institute is based on the JEE advanced rank in the IIT JEE exam. The course you will be allotted is based on your rank and it is allotted by JOSAA counseling.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculties are highly qualified and experienced as they are selected though a rigorous selection procedure. Some of them are from reputed universities like Cambridge, IISC Bengaluru etc. After publishing many articles and doing research work they get eligible to becomes a professor of a reputed institution like the IIT.
 

Placement Rating
Yes like any other colleges our college too has a placement cell that accounts for the registration of students in the placement. It also helps in connecting with various companies.
 

Hostel Rating
There are many hostels in our college that are named on the basis of precious stones like Amber, Topaz, Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby etc. The hostel infrastructure is good but the mess food is average. Canteen is available in the hostel. Recreation activities like many events or fest are held for entertainment.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Although our college is very old but it is well maintained and operates quite well. A new lecture hall complex is being constructed. A hostel named as Aquamarine is completed and it is the highest building with 13 floors. A seismological observatory is also there. Every hostel has its own garden it is well maintained and decorated. The main heritage building is a place of attraction.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is quite good. There are over 8000 peoples living inside the campus. The senior-junior relationship is also good. There are many clubs like technical clubs like Roboism, IOT, Naresh Vashisht Centre for tinkering and innovation (NVCTI) for fostering innovation. Cultural club includes Literacy, Manthan, etc. Srijan is the biggest cultural fest of IIT ISM and CONCETTO is the technical fest.

    I have experienced a good atmosphere at this university, which helps me to have self-confidence. I opted for this institute as it is in the middle of the town unlike other institutions, which were quite in the outskirts of cities. It also has great facilities like any other IIT and so helps in boosting one's career. It is quite famous and old. It was established in 1926 and so soon, it is going to have a century....     Our institute is one of the oldest institutes with an NIRF rank of 15th in engineering category. It recently was labeled as IIT. The existing institute campus area is about 218 acres consisting of 15 hostels occupied by students enrolled in various courses (Ph.D, B.Tech, M. Tech, etc). Also, there is a Student Activity Centre (SAC) which allows students interested in sports / acting / singing / dancing / swimming to engage themselves in their hobbies.   • Reasons to Choose ECE at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

    For me, I have just completed my first semester here and starting to fall in love with my institute. The rain and the red color of ISM combine to probably give the best view. Not very big campus but still it seems largest when you are running late for the labs and classes. RD, Mehzban, Dominos, Barista are there to address the food craving monster inside you.     First of all it should be remembered that it's ISM before IIT. Overall experience is better. As a South Indian I felt difficult to connect with Hindi language and also to the food as most of our diet is filled with potato. The experience about studies is good.
