Acharya Bangalore B-School BBA Review By Ankit Gahlot

Following my friend’s footsteps, I joined ABBS as nothing much was required to get admissions here. The entrance was a formality as there are enough management quota seats to get way inside. The college rankings and recognition was good and therefore I had no heebie-jeebies in joining it as well. After watching the crowd which was mostly local, I knew I have made a mistake. The fees too was quite high but dropping out after a year wouldn’t have made senses. Infrastructure wise the college is great as the facilities are numerous and some of them were literally unheard of. The hostels were good and adjusting to a completely different side of the country took time but by the end it was all good. Feeling of living college life in Bangalore was possible at ABBS as there were many clubs and activities that I never knew exists in colleges. Education part needs revision as rest all are still in order. Maximum students were preparing for MBA and still had problems with placements. I never chased them as I knew my goals. Education part and the college crowd were the area of concern as they need to market the college so that people know about it and students from other states too start enrolling here.

Such a small schedule and I loved it that way. Morning to noon and we were done with the studies. Lectures were long but still the stretch wasn’t much consuming but the surprise tests and prelims were consuming for sure. In college, one can’t have all the rules of the schools but ABBS was ABBS and we had to deal with a lot of challenges. The faculty would even extend the classes because to complete the syllabus was their only motto. Facilities wise be it computer lab, workshop station, or outdoor live practicals were given proper assistance but the theory part was pathetic.

Faculties were hardly knowledgeable and dare if you ask them anything extra. Once I asked a general question and the professor asked me in which chapter have, I studied that. Hence, you will be asked to become a bookworm and nothing more. They have no business in appreciating your efforts beyond the classrooms. They care about completing the portions and giving lesser marks to students for no reasons. Faculties never led from the front and just gave us assignments to complete which they hardly checked.

I hope that they were not joking when they told us during the 2nd semester that all your seniors got placed. It was unfortunate that I didn’t spoke with them or else I would have known that college just lies and lies. Just like others, I also kept my expectations high and the nice summer training after the 4th semester gave wings to my imaginations. Not just our college but the interns from many other colleges of Bangalore were also there and it was then that I realized that this is like a practice in almost all Bangalore colleges. Come the placement hour and as usual the college disappointed as they filtered out many as you are ineligible. Of course, I was in that ineligible list but most of us were so it was like ok. I don’t know the exact number of students who got placed but trust it were just a few. The placements in general of ABBS are manipulative because there’s no 100% placement or for that matter not even half of that.

The college should be given credit where it deserves because the boys hostel was great. Sadly, not many students from our state but still because we already went in pairs and choosing the room was up to us. The rooms were clean and most importantly had all the required furniture along with attached washroom. The warden was little strict so making noise after 11 pm was not allowed. The in time was 10pm which was reasonable but the only problem was it took 2 hours to reach the hostel if we were stuck in an area 10 kilometers from the college. The Bangalore traffic made us stand in queue outside the hostel as every semester I got the warning for coming late. The food provided was good but something I couldn’t have had daily and luckily the college canteen and cafeteria were inside the campus that came to our rescue.

If you compare the area in general, it was small but all the facilities that were there were quite lavish. The college buildings were painted on regular basis and more so it was the color combination of the building that made them looked even more attractive. The college’s have such auditoriums was new for me because I though there will be a stage and events and all will take place there. Trust me the auditorium gave a complete theatrical experience whenever we witnessed events or guest lectures there. I was a sportsperson and luckily the college had all the indoor and outdoor sporting facilities. I was in the football team and college has an amazing ground for practicing football. There’s a canteen that served mostly the south Indian menu but café close to our hostel building was really nice. If one is fed up of having south Indian menu, they can find quite a few Italian dishes at the cafeteria.

I came to Bangalore thinking, I will see a cosmopolitan crowd but sadly ABBS doesn’t have that. Students were mostly local or from the states and that is why we saw students speaking in Kannada. A left-out feeling was sensed and there was nothing I could have done about that. I didn’t enjoy much at the campus as I never been a part of any event other than representing the college in the football team.
