B.Des from Indus University will give you lots of practical learning

Indus University is one of the good options for a university in Ahmedabad, considering the design section it's doing a phenomenal job. I chose IDS as it has an amazing team of leaders and mentors, I started my journey in 2019 and yet it had almost every facility one student can ask for, and it also got great responses from a lot of designing students. Even after having fewer resources, the university gave out the best in every aspect, considering a little hassle during COVID-19 times, hands down the best number of opportunities, in terms of lectures, activities, assignments, and knowledge followed by supper fun field trips. One of the best times for Universities is the outgoing culture in which Indus topped the most, calling out all the events such as Instincts, Ramzat (Navratri), etc.

As I mentioned, Design isn't something that can be learned in a closed studio, it's out there everywhere, from a small frog jumping around in the pond to all the humungous monuments made throughout the world. Our faculty believes a lot in outdoor studies along with technical ones and hence field trips were a huge part of our learning. We visited multiple places like Diu, Jodhpur, Pondicherry, and not only the cities but also factories to understand how a local craft is preserved and practiced in such small yet very intriguing ways possible.

We have seen Faculties leaving and joining multiple times and some or the other way it helped. As design is something one cannot just learn while they are trapped inside a studio, they taught us how to be disciplined and some taught us few rules are meant to break. The balance amongst these all was us. From sketching live nature drawings in the beautiful back garden of the campus to brainstorming for days sitting in the studio, we all absorbed.

We have a very compact campus which isn't fully planned but it’s beautiful in its way. Since Indus started with Aviation as its base course, we have multiple airplanes around which are visible from Google Maps. Quite a pretty simple space and has a very homely feeling, Far from all the chaos of the city, it is located near Shilaj. A very decent cafeteria along with a Tea post nearby. And for the impromptu stationery needs, we have a little stationery made within the campus itself.

For every design stream including Fashion, Interior, Product, or Communication we have different studios available, which have all the required amenities such as Stitching machines, planning tables, steam iron, projectors, multiple computers with software, etc. All of them are fully air-conditioned and made in such a direction that they have sunlight sources as well. Every batch whoever came has left something / some part of them on the wall of the studio. The movement anyone who passes by will see the artwork done on the walls and will understand it's the design section.
