Choosing this institute started with me going for many competitive exams and finally clearing some of them. Upon doing research, I found SRM Institute of Science and Technology to be a better option in comparison to other colleges. The institute provides a great infrastructure and the campus life is very diverse, with people coming from all states and places having different cultures. The first few years were great, but later it went down as people slowly started to move out of the hostels. Academically, this institute is brilliant and provides many opportunities for students. But not all the faculties are great.

I have chosen the B.Tech program in Electronics and Communication Engineering. I got admission after clearing the SRMJEEE exam. The eligibility goes by getting a rank under 15000 for the ECE course on phase 3 of the exam. You should have 75% or more in both 10th and 12th board examinations. I was always keen about knowing electronics and electrical equipment, so I opted for this program. I really believe that I have made a great decision in doing so as I have thoroughly enjoyed this program till date.

The faculties of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology come from different backgrounds and states, making it a well balanced environment for the students coming from different states. Most of the faculty members have a Ph.D degree and are very supportive in our learning and while doing other projects. But not all of them fall under this category as some faculty members are not so good at teaching. Although, it is common for colleges to have good and average faculties. The style of teaching of the faculties ranges from teaching through presentations, lectures and through online medias.

Yes, this institute does have a dedicated placement cell for the overall checking of available placements. They do conduct some seminars on teaching us about the placement game and interview processes. The students are often updated through mail about the ongoing placements in different fields.

I have stayed in the hostel for 2 years and the hostel life is great. We can make a lot of friends and connections here. The hostel has many food outlets nearby and has a gym. There are more than 10 hostels for the boys. The mess food is occasionally good.

The infrastructure is one of the major highlights of this institute as it provides students with a lot of facilities like libraries, wellness centres and gyms. The classes are held in 8 different blocks, out of which 4 of them have air conditioning facilities. The library is a great place for book lovers and people seeking knowledge as it provides a huge variety of books. The library has 3 floors. However, the gym is only for boys. It is a little small and the quantity of equipment available is less. This institute also has a multi-specialty hospital for medical emergencies.

The campus life is another attraction of this institute. SRM Institute of Science and Technology has a cultural fest called ‘Milan’ and a technical fest called ‘Aarush’. Different DJs and prominent singers from different locations come to the institute for performing. The rates of such events range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1200. The Milan fest is organized by the Directorate of Students Admissions Group. It is a great time for us to enjoy and have fun. Also, many other events and shows are organized throughout the academic year. The institute is very crowded, which may make you face some issues. Apart from this, other health wellness programs are organized here.
