Being a BNMITIAN gives me pride but trust it’s not more than a school. School has a uniform while the college has a proper dress code. Just like school, you can be suspended from the college even if you make noise in the class. I had to call my parents at least 4-5 times in 8 semesters. There are chances that you can escape Karnataka police but trust me you can never fool guards of the college. Unless and until the classes are over, you can’t leave the campus. You can remain absent but if you are present in the college without I-Card means you are bound to be punished. Workshops and more workshops are organized in the name of extracurricular activities. There are 4 college gates but for students only one. If you want to be a good academician then yes do join this college. However, if you feel college is for fun then please don’t you dare come near this college.

Since, the college is under VTU, the course is one of the most advanced that we get to study here. Exams were always on time and the professors made sure that all the students are well prepared. College hardly produced a topper during my time and all the student’s faced aftermath of that. Sad but then this is just one thing as there a lot of other things that we as a student had to go through. Attendance of 80% is must. Even if you are 78 means your parents will have to beg for you to give exams. Only half the students would have cleared engineering in 1st attempt from BNM IT. Teaching and all is fantastic but still it was more of a jail if nothing more.

Teaching was exquisite and that is one part that I relish the most about BNM IT. The professor’s hands were cut short as they had to report everything to the higher authorities or else, they were quite helpful. The best people were hired for the job and that made us love our teachers more than ever. The strength was limited and therefore the professors would attend students individually. I would rate them as one of the best as I have never seen such knowledgeable people. The average experience of our professors was 15 years and almost all of them have pursued PhD.

Placements were superb as in 2016 one of the students from our branch got a job worth Rs. 18 LPA. The average was around 5 LPA but some lucky ones were hired by Amazon and Google among others. Bangalore means IT and CSE student’s placement was above par among many VTU colleges. Even the recruiters said that BNM IT is known for giving best engineers to the society. The other branches didn’t have the same placement as CSE branch but placements on the whole were great. Being a smaller college among the colleges of VTU, BNM IT is a better placed college when it comes to placements.

The boy’s hostel was around a mile from the institute while the girl’s hostel was located inside the campus. Rooms were given on twin basis and there were two study tables and two cupboards for the students. All the rooms had attached washrooms and also had a mess facility. The boys' hostel curfew time was 9 pm and for girls it was 8. If you want to stay out beyond the stipulated time, your parents had to call the warden and inform about the same. If college was strict, hostel was even stricter. I was lucky that I didn’t have to stay at the hostel otherwise I would have even left the college.

Compared to the branches and the number of students the campus was quite small. Rather than accommodating a sports ground which was of no use, the institute should have focused on making at least the parking area large. Many students had to park their vehicles outside and then in evening had to collect their vehicle from the police station. The entire campus has just one canteen and because it serves so tasty food that you will have to wait at least 30 minutes to get your order. The college location is great as it is located at the Banashankari and there are a lot of places nearby. In my books, I would call the infra of institute modest because of the small area.

Life was great as the placement percentage is high and that kept everyone’s mood uplifted. The institute offers a lot of activities in sports and fine arts. The outsiders ratio was fairly low compared to various other colleges of Bangalore. All in all, BNM IT is one of best colleges of VTU but if some of the strict rules are lifted it will surely attract a lot of outsiders as well.
