Jain University B.Tech Review By Dayanand Rajput

I went all the way from Haryana to study at one of the best universities in India. This is what I thought as Jain University’s name is famous all across the country. I thought it’s in Bangalore and then I came to know that University’s Faculty of Engineering & Technology is 45 kms away from the main city. Jain Global campus is in Kanakapura. Thank God, I stayed at the hostel because the day scholars wasted daily three hours to come and go back home travelling. 12th numbers are enough to secure a seat here as the entrance is a mere formality because I never appeared for entrance but when I applied here, I easily got the admissions. CS branch is the best as it had the best placements but the university is still infant and a lot needs to be done to have a nice industry interface.

Classrooms like never before. Just like the name the university has made everything of global standard here. Classrooms with air-conditions and teaching through integrated projectors was unimaginable for me. Classes would go on from 10 am to 4 pm and we had sufficient breaks in between. It was never so hectic as we could wake up at 9 and directly come to the classes. Not many know that engineers don’t bath daily as anyways the girls ratio was negligible in the class. Academic part was good but wasn’t that great as everything was of global standard but teaching definitely was below par.

The university doesn’t have brought enough experience as most of the faculties were in mid-30s who were still busy doing PhD. They would continue with their researches but do take students involvement and that motivated some of my mates to do PhD. However, they dropped the idea after 4 years of engineering. Faculties were mediocre as not many outside the syllabus questions were answered by them as they would mostly ignore such questions.

CS department had placements but other department students chin were down. University is still a toddler and there’s a lot that they have to do. Even the CS department placements weren’t that great because ROI was not more than 30% for sure. Most of the students were from well to do family and they didn’t care but for those who needed placements have to go heads down from the university. A lot needs to be done because placements prove the mettle of a college.

All bad things have gone by now because from here on you will only read good things. There were around 7-8 blocks of boys hostels. Some blocks had triple sharing rooms; some had twins, while 2 buildings had rooms on single sharing. Mess was common for all and it was run by Sodexo. Thus, the quality of the food was unquestionable. Even though it’s a Jain university, we were served onions and garlic in food. It was up to the students as there was a separate Jain section at the mess. Best part of the hostel was Hostel Utsav which was celebrated annually and both boys and girls’ hostel students participated in them. From rooms, to foods, to events, everything about the hostel was astounding and makes no mistake as the hostel will never let you miss your family or friends because all the students stayed together as a family here.

It took me 15 minutes to decide where should I start from. I was asked to write the area and because I was not sure how big it is, I googled and it showed 300 acres. I am not sure whether it was that huge but it was one of the biggest campuses I have ever seen in my life. The infrastructure of the university is world class and that’s because I have not seen such sporting facilities at any other places. Starting with cricket it had a great ground that had over 70m boundary on all sides. Tennis court again was world class and was inaugurated by none other than Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna in 2016. Four basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts. If you think I am done then I would say the story has just begun. The campus had a golf course. There were around 12-14 golf kits and coaches to teach us Golf. From the first year itself I registered my name for Golf and every Sunday I made sure I am at the Golf course. It may not be of an international standard but it wasn’t less either. Last but not the least I have to mention about the Bowling Alley as well. I have filled this section with sporting only and still a lot left to be said about sporting itself. Other than sports facilities the university had the best auditorium that had capacity of over 1000 people. The multiple canteens made sure we are never short of choices.

It is impossible to remember all the event names as there were events for all occasions and all with some unique names. Abhyudaya was freshers day celebration from where the things kick-off. The freshers used to perform on that day and show the seniors what they have got. The last celebration that I had at Jain University was Upasthapna which is graduation day celebration. The university had events all throughout the year and every event were like a festival at the university.
