In 2025, BHU Varanasi Got 6th Placed in 'University' Category of NIRF

Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi is a prestigious University which got the 6th position in the 'University' category by NIRF. It focuses on your overall academic, as well as extracurricular activities including social welfare work and gives students wide opportunities other than just being academically focused. My experience of studying in this University has been good considering I'm in 2nd year right now. My decision of choosing this University over other Universities has been its cultural diversity along with the cultural values of the place it is situated in, that is Varanasi. Its image and value also adds to my reasons of choosing this University over others. Other private Universities do not offer such cultural diversity or cultural orientation along with focusing on academics which can be found here.

The course chosen by me is B.A (Hons.) in Economics. I solely went in for this course because I personally had an inclination towards Economics since schooling years. Entry requirements and eligibility criteria to get into this course is securing above cutoff marks in English and general test in CUET. Admission process is simple, apply for entrance exam, appear for it, once you clear it securing good marks, you'll be shortlisted for the admission process after which you'll receive a mail regarding when you should appear for physical verification at the campus. Once physical verification is done, you've secured your seat. Exams take place twice a year, that is, 2 semesters for each year.

The fee ranges from Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 4000/- depending upon the course you've chosen. Scholarships for students are available and the students can apply for them, UP Scholarship and NSP Scholarship are one of them.

The faculty members are good. They have in depth knowledge of their respective subjects and will guide you whenever required. The faculty is well educated and are concerned about each student’s personal development along with helping in doubt solving and practical application of the subject. My personal experience with the faculty members has been excellent, they are very supportive and helpful whenever help is required and are student friendly so that students are never afraid of asking for help.

Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi provides placement for PG courses and some of the UG courses as well..

Hostels of BHU Varanasi have good facilities for students with good food, timely schedule and in & out time. The hostels have Wi-Fi facility which helps the students in attending their online classes as well as acts like an aid to their education. Girls’ and boys’ hostels are separate. Mess food is hygienic and is provided 4 times a day (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner). Hostel fees amounts to around Rs. 4000/-. My personal experience of the hostel has been good.

Infrastructure is commendable. I haven't come across a University or College as good as Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. We have libraries, labs, and a number of seminar and conference halls. There are canteens and all other facilities. My favourite part of this University is the Vishwanath Temple situated at the centre of the campus. Along with that, the gardens are the centre of attraction.

My campus life has been very interesting and full of enjoyable moments. The crowd is good, and diversified with people from Bihar, Western India, Uttar Pradesh and some Southern States. There are various clubs including dance club (Taalasya), music club (Mousiquee), Civil Services club (One Percent Club) along with fests and cultural programs. There are several events in the campus itself, including music, dance and cultural events with freshers and farewell as well as Convocation (Degree distribution).
