My journey at Jadavpur University.

Overall Rating
From the moment I stepped on the campus, there was an illusion of grandeur in the air. Professors chatted with students and students chatted with juniors. Everyone is up to something and the students seem to be everywhere on the big sprawling campus. Often referred to as IIT Jadavpur, it is easy to get lost in all of the pompous culture. Despite being the University in Kolkata, it has a long way to go to be one of the best in the country.
 

Academics Rating
The University has a solid reputation in academics. The engineering and arts departments are well-known and top-notch all over the country. It has the best professors and a very tough admission procedure. The University only selects best students in the state, ensuring a competitive and balanced academic culture. Talking about the curriculum in the engineering faculty, it is as per international standards. The electives offers cool and new technologies that can be explored.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty members are highly regarded and some professors have such a reputation that an offer letter from them will guaranteed admission to any top University. I got the opportunity to do cutting-edge research in bachelors.
 

Placement Rating
I wouldn't say placements are great just like old IITs because it is not. The average package at top departments like CS/IT and the circuital branches can reach up to 15-20 LPA, but they suffered recently. It has to do with the lousy bureaucracy and a non-existent alumni network. We have alumni at high ranking positions all over the world, but IITians are on another level. Branches like chemical and civil also get fully placed.
 

Hostel Rating
The hostels are very cheap and are hard to get. You will only be allotted a hostel room if your family income is below a certain level or if you live far enough. Some people who have hostels still prefer to live elsewhere in rented rooms or PG’s. On the positive side, hostel life is vibrant. Sense of community is strong with regular festivities, programs and competitions.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The Central and Departmental libraries are well equipped. The new buildings are decent, but the old buildings and facilities need renovation and improvisation respectively. Again a lack of bureaucratic execution. Wi-Fi is available all over the campus. The campus is decent and the classrooms are air conditioned. Each department has an auditorium and the campus has two more state of the art theatres which can be rented for events.
 

Campus Rating
Nobody can complain about the campus fife at Jadavpur University. It is where the University really shines. The seniors are very helpful and friendly. There are many hangout spots and recreation rooms in the University. You can find carom boards and table tennis boards on the hangout spots. The campus is equipped with basketball, badminton court and a full-size football field. The student community is very active and is always up to something. They organise fests and workshops almost every other week.

    Jadavpur University is tier 1 university and it is better than few IIT's and NIT's. Most important thing that you get here is JU tag. Alumni network is amazing and has very helpful Senior.     It has been less than a year that I joined this university. Till now, my experience is one of mixed feelings. The placement stats of Information Technology (my branch), very less fees compared to 99.9% of engineering colleges in India, language (Bengali), and good academic culture and to be honest familiarity with the city of Kolkata were the main reasons that compelled me to join this university out of the options that I had at that time.   • Jadavpur University: Ideal University to get Best Placement
     

    Overall Rating
    Our university is a tier 1 state public university with NIRF 2024 rank 12th in Engineering Category. Placement is very good (up to 100%) in some departments like Civil, Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, etc. Overall placement was 95% last year.     The overall experience of the university is superb. I'll describe each aspect in the later section but here let me give an outline of my experience. Jadavpur University offers the best ROI in India, the fees is just 2400 and getting an average placement of 10 LPA (20 LPA for CSE). There's no 75% attendance policy, 45-50% is enough.     Jadavpur University is one of the most prestigious institutions of India, particularly known for its Engineering courses. It gives a great university life experience and much boost to the carrier opportunities. It has the NIRF ranking of 12th in the year 2024.
