Graphic Era University MBA Review By Shams Khan

GEU School of Management is a part of Graphic Era University and is the second college of the university after the engineering college. MBA of GEU has more local students than the outsiders as firstly the fees is high and there’s a misconception that placements are not that great. Fees for sure is little on the higher side as if we were not given discounts, I don’t think, I would have done MBA from here. Placement part though is completely wrong because placements of MBA students are next to what engineers receive from the campus. Marketing was our main subject and which better institute to teach us marketing than GEU which today has not just Indian students but many NRIs too studying here. To learn marketing, I don’t see an organization better than GEU. I am still in my second semester and have been promised placements because soon we will be sent for internships.

Unlike BBA where we used to have four classes in the entire the MBA classes lasts for 8-10 hours daily. 9 to 4 is our time but on days, we have left the college at 7 pm too. There was an interim break when the latest wave of Covid came but in 40-45 days, the college re-opened and we are back to college attending hectic lectures. The syllabus of GEU comes straight from the leaf of IIMs as college banks on top colleges data and study pattern to teach its students. We may not enjoy the same exposure and same facilities as the students of those colleges are enjoying but for sure, we study the same thing as those guys do.

Wherever you go, you will find some nagging faculty but not at GEU School of Management. The management sits on the top of faculties to see the student’s development. Every month a tour or fair is organized for the students to make sure students get enough exposure. Not just in UK, but we were taken on industrial tour to Anand in Gujarat. It was an all-expense trip from college end and it was led by none other than our faculties. So, far the faculties I have come across are great and don’t know what to expect in the coming semesters.

Already we have assigned our internship companies and most of us will be doing our internship in Fintech companies. IT companies come at the campus in numbers and from what I have seen in the previous years is that IT companies hires the maximum students. However, I hope that we get placed in FMCG, Fintech or the banks as marketing students can contribute their more than IT companies. ITC and Britannia have also tie-up with the university and once the placement starts, I will target those companies.

There’s a boys and girls hostel inside the main campus. A four-floor building for each with the top two floors consisting of single beds. Hostel rooms have ACs and are flourished with best furniture. The capacity becomes less and therefore the university has some hostels off-campus right from the main road to the Church, one can find 5-6 hostels of the university. Nearly 800-1000 students of the university stay at the hostel that is feeded with best quality food. This is one thing that I will miss as I have never been to hostel and staying in such restriction has its own fun. I have few classmates who stay at the hostels and led a life filled with fun and laughter. There is electricity issue in Dehradun but the hostels are backed with generators.

GEU’s School of Management is inside the main campus that has 8-10 departmental building including the main block of the university. The main block has teacher’s staffroom, accounts department, and reception hall. Coming to our building, it had first two floors for the BBA students and the next two for us. The top floor is for PhD students and also has library on that floor. The main auditorium is the biggest of them hall as the capacity of the auditorium is around 700-800 students at a time. Just below the main building, the stage is set during occasions and one can simply admire the way the campus looks during important events. There are two playgrounds and three canteens at the main campus.

I have enjoyed my journey thus far, as we have already had an outdoor tour and city industrial tours are like a monthly thing over here. Even MBA students host their own events and fair as we are the senior most students of the campus. No ragging is allowed at the campus and that’s definitely the best thing that exists at the campus. Even the outsiders can breathe easy because nobody can do any harm to any student inside the campus. The punishments are so severe that nobody can even dare to show an eye to student they have grudges against inside the campus. So, one can feel entirely safe and secured inside the GEU campus.
