DAV University BCA Review By Gargi Singhal

In Punjab, one thing common is people think of foreign tie-ups and this is why 'DAV' has become a brand name. The University started recently and the flaws are more than the positives. When it comes to private Universities in Punjab, LPU, and Chitkara University Patiala are the best. Being from Jalandhar, I should have joined LPU but their over-the-top endorsements made me stay out of it. DAVIET is much better as it is an established Institute and is under PTU, while DAV University which is a deemed one, doesn't add much value to your CV. For BCA, too, the choices are few and DAV University being a new one, I thought, it would serve my purpose. I was not disappointed, as after the grey sky's what comes is a shiny afternoon. So, the University is growing, and the grey clouds have started disappearing. Along with studies, extracurricular activities are given equal importance, so the entertainment quotient always remains high here.

Just three lectures daily or 15 lectures in a week was the system followed here. BCA, which is more of a lab work, has included way too much theory to learn the subject practically. Labs were on Saturday and that too for one and a half hours. Some departments at the University are great, but definitely not BCA. One should rather look at other choices because my parents questioned the integrity of the College every while because three to four hours at the University and I was back home. They went on to say that even the school has better timings than this. This was true, but I wish they knew the difference between a College and a School.

I wish I could say, I was thankful to the faculty who taught us BCA here. The number of faculties, including all three years, was 10. The same professors taught us one subject in the first semester and another in the third semester. Almost all private Universities in India have ensured that the best in the subjects are hired. I didn't expect my professors to teach me only the academic stuff, but they gave way too many lessons on developing life skills. I agree time guidance is important and who is better than our teachers to give that. In the process, though, they forgot that their prime job is to teach us subjects. So, faculties, a big no from me.

If I was doing MBA or B. Tech, I would have bothered about the placements, but bothering about them in BCA wouldn't have been right on my part too. The tech companies that came to hire the fresh B. Tech batch invited some BCA applicants. I couldn't make the cut, as the students with the highest marks were called. Even most of them couldn't make the cut, so I was anyways certain that even if I was called upon, I wouldn't have been able to make it. So, the University was sorry to us for the placements, as that was the least they could do.

Hostels have become an important aspect before starting a College or the University. Before the department buildings were ready, the University made sure that their hostels were in the best state and they were built at the end road of the campus. Both boys and girls hostels looked fantastic. I knew some students who were staying at the hostels. All of them in one voice have praised the rooms and food provided. Life comes secondary and since the primary part of the hostels were taken care of, I am sure the secondary part too would have been good.

With the amount of Universities that are coming in Punjab, all are in a rush to start at the earliest. Due to which, the construction is not completed and we enter a campus which is half completed. Even before the Corona, we had to wear masks because dust was flying all over and had to cross ways where one can only breathe dust. Whatever was ready, I had no hesitation in saying that it was better than LPU. The campus has a Bank branch, a superb gym facility separate for both boys and girls. There were certain timings in place for day scholars, but for hostellers, there were no timings as they can use it as and when they want. The University has also built a world-class dispensary at the campus as injuries are part and parcel of life. Every small or big injury was treated at the campus itself. For emergencies, there were two ambulances in place as well.

Everyone must be aware of the behavior of boys in Punjab. If any such behavior was reported the guys were rusticated immediately. This rule kept them in check and made the girls feel home at the campus. So, security and ragging were taken care of at the DAV University. Other than that, celebration at the campus was such that one has to choose which one they will participate in and which one they will skip because participating or even watching them all was not possible for a single person.
