I chose this institute because of its location in the mountains. Hill stations like Shimla, Manali, Kasool are nearby and the weather is also good most of the time. The air is clean in the campus and the infrastructure is very beautiful and picturesque. You can take long walks in the campus as it is full of greenery.

The admission in this institute is on the basis of JEE Main examination. After that the students have to register themselves on the JOSAA platform and they will be assigned to this institute on the basis of their choice and merit in the exam. There is no interview and group discussion for the admission. Students just have to register themselves on JOSAA and after getting selected, they will have to pay the fees. The institute has 50% reservation for home states students.

In each semester we had 4 exams (2 quizzes, a mid-sem and an end-sem exam). There was a 75% attendance criteria in the institute. The faculty to student ratio was not good before but now it has improved as they have recruited some more teachers during my last year. The class strength was a lot which made it a hassle to learn in the class. Some teachers are very strict about attendance, and some are okay. The faculties and student interaction are less on a personal level.

We get eligible for internships during 5th semester and for placements during 7th semester. Companies like Tata Power, Reliance, Jio, Larsen and Turbo, Noida power, Exide, Schneider electrics, Honda, Maruti, JSW come to the campus. The highest package in my branch was 15 LPA and the average package is around 8 LPA. In 2024 around 70% of students got placed. My plan after getting my degree is to go for a master's degree. Less number of companies gives internships opportunities compared to placement. Companies like Jio, Honda, Wells Fargo, Amazon and some more came for internships and although they selected very few students they got PPO.

The Hostels are less according to the number of students so the rooms can be congested at times. The rooms have a bed, chair, table and almirah. For the first three years students will live in 3 or 4 occupancy rooms. Bathrooms are not maintained but are cleaned regularly. The mess food is average. Each hostel has a badminton court and table tennis table.

Infrastructure is good and maintained. Most of the departments have their own departmental building but some newer departments like Physics and Material science are sharing their department with other branches. There is a Student Activities Centre, Library, Auditorium, a sports ground (cricket, football, basketball court, tennis court). 2 lecture halls, one is new and the other is old. Labs are a bit old as their equipment is not maintained.

NIT, Hamirpur has 2 fests, one technical and one cultural. Nimbus (tech fest) is arranged in the month of March and Hill fair (cultural fest) is arranged in the month of November. The institute has a team of cricket, football, basketball, badminton, chess, and table tennis. There are many clubs and societies both technical and cultural like dance club, music club, Bhangra club, etc.
