Uttaranchal University BBA Review By Sarthak Panwar

I will consider all the ebbs and the flaws before passing my verdict about 'Uttaranchal University'. On some days, it felt like the University was stream rolling every other University, while on some instances, it looked like a shop where we had booked our seats to study. Campus life would be my pick of all the points that I have to review. The campus life here was exceptional as no one can match the kind of events and the fests that happen here. The elevation of academics never went sky high here because education was not primary or secondary. It was lagging between, and I don't like, in-between things. Thus, I have picked campus life as the green area while academics as the desert area of the University. Now since academics here is 'Thar Desert', the placements have to be in the 'Sahara Desert'. If academics tee off at Uttaranchal University, then there's nothing that can stop them.

In my three years, all I could see was that academics couldn't make a home at the University. The attendance was said to be compulsory but one could get away with them with a petty fine. I am saying this petty because many students who study here don't mind paying 2000 per subject as a fine for having low attendance. Monetary punishment will never take the academic level up, but some strict punishment definitely will. A class of 80 students never had 40+ in any of the classes. I never paid the fine as I always thought of investing that money somewhere else rather than paying a fine in the University's wealthy piggy bank. I hope the academics are backed more and once that happens, the University which is second or third best currently in the city, will top the charts.

Faculties have to be the star performers, if any University for that matter needs to take a level up of their education. Some of the faculties were stars, but some were duds, too. Also, some superstar faculties are needed because I had few friends in IITs and they said now and then their faculties are awarded with some national and international awards. At Uttaranchal University there was none of this repertoire. Average faculties who silently finished their jobs, but I like noise and would have loved it if I could have made a little bit of buzz for them.

Please excuse me for being a little critical under my peril about placements here. We were told that our turn would come once the companies approached them. I don't know whether the companies approached them or not, but we were never approached for placements. Few students did, but only a few. Before the completion of the course, it was written on big hoardings that BBA students had grabbed an offer worth 16 LPA. I did my best to find those students, but even after approaching almost all the students, I couldn't find any. I hope my readers are smart enough to know what I am trying to say.

It seems like the University owes something to outsiders and that is why they have built world-class hostels inside the campus. I could only go till the guest room but most homes in India won't be as clean as the hostel was. No littering was allowed, and fines were such that students even dared to throw garbage anywhere but dustbins. The hostels were great, as all I know is that rooms were spacious and even the food provided to the hostellers was of top quality. The meals were provided four times a day, so one had to turn to the University cafes for food.

The color of the buildings at the University is what has impressed me the most. White, Pink, and Grey is the theme, and one will fall in love with the buildings more than anything else. I loved being cooked at the campus as I used to spend ample time at the campus. I never missed going to the University unless I had a fever or was out of town. The University is a foodie delight as there are four to five cafes inside the campus. Our classes were held at UIM (Uttaranchal Institute of Management) which had around 60 classrooms, 4-5 labs, and a library on the top floor. So, well within our building, we had all the resources we needed. The playground was a little far from our building, but they were such that I found time to hold the cricket bat and hit smoke out of the ground.

We didn't have to wait for events because the red carpet was set permanent and some or the other Institutes of the University will have their events weekly. The combined fest of the University Uttaranchal Yuva Fest was the biggest fest of the University. To have fun at the campus, one doesn't need a second invitation because there was a plethora of them.
