Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences B.Com Review By Samiksha Sharma

The University started in 2013, and from the beginning, they have introduced an online exam as the eligibility criteria to get admissions. 50% in 12th and 50% in the entrance exam is required for B. Com (Hons) admissions. The University is great as location, infrastructure, teaching, and admission procedures are so simple that one doesn't have to take any load. The entrance results are out in 14 days, and we are informed whether we have secured admissions or not. There were three sections, and not more than 60 students were permitted in any of the sections. Thus, the University has laid their prime focus on the quality and the quantity of the students it will give admissions to. The University is one of the most prominent educational groups, so placements are never a problem here. The University has most outsiders, and still, language has never been a problem here because from Pune to the Principal, everyone here speaks only in English with the students. From the first day itself, I fell in love with this University, which has one of the most amazing ambiences.

B. Com (Hons) here is tougher than 'DU' as accountancy is the main subject; we were made to work in corporate as accountants for the internship right from the third semester. A stipend of 2000 was provided to students, but we were made to work like cats and dogs. The learning through lectures and internships was a quality one as many students were also pursuing CA alongside and they were assisted in their CA classes too. Students who wanted to get ready for management courses were also assisted. Thus, the academics here were one of the best because I have not seen such seriousness in a course like B. Com elsewhere.

Since our course was more inclined towards accountancy, most of our faculties were respected Chartered Accountants. Many of them were M. Com and some management students too, as the number of faculties even for B. Com was around 30. They were very strict as they were clear that they would provide us with enough time to chill but no time to spare during academic life. From the second year, internships were made mandatory, and the final year they guided us on everything right from placements to how to enroll for higher studies. Their guidance at that level has taken our careers to the highs where they are today.

Around 50% of the students found placements through campus in companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Google, Licious, and HCL Tech. The placements for B. Com students were no less than 3 lakhs during our time, and I have interacted with some of the students off late, and they said students here now are placed with packages of 6 lakhs and more. The University's placements graph is rising but they haven't compromised on intake and that is why they have been able to manage the quality. So not placements, but future guidance and life lessons were also provided at the University, which was a bonus.

There are three to four girls' hostels, out of which some are on-campus and some are off-campus. I stayed at the star hostel of the University called Star 555 Hostel. The hostel was at Peenya campus which was around 2km from our University campus. The bus fees were included in the hostel fees, so even if we used it or not, we had to pay for that. The hostel was great as it had rooms that provided double, triple, and four sharing beds. The first-year students had to stay at a flat that had four beds, and from the next year onwards, we could choose the kind of room we wanted. The rooms are fewer, and the demand is high, so make sure you book your room along with admissions to the University. The lounge room and study hall of the hostel were better than our rooms, and thus, I spent most of my time at the hostels in those two rooms.

There are 10 to 12 departments at the University, and each department has their departmental building. Some sub-divisions in the engineering department, as they had way too many branches, and one building was not enough to have that many classes. There was a medical hospital and a dental hospital on the campus. There was a fountain and huge car parking close to that. There were two canteens then, and two more started a few months back. There are many playgrounds too, and one of those is reserved for girls as boys are not allowed to play any form of sports there.

Life at RUAS was amazing as outsiders filled most of the crowd. I belonged to Rajasthan and found many students from my state at the University even though I went alone. From sporting to cultural events, many events form a part of campus life and the biggest of all was the 'Karnataka Rajya Utsav' where CM felicitated meritorious students and students' favorite professors.
