Atria Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Aviral Nautiyal

The way Atria Institute of Technology is positioned in terms of ranking, I am sure it must be hurting them. I will be honest that I did M. Tech from here as this was one of the rare options that I had in Bangalore to do M. Tech. Ramaiah, Christ University, REVA University, and others either asked for donations or GATE scores. I had none to offer, but I was adamant that I will study from Bangalore. Thus, AIT's happened, and I will boast all the good things that the Institute has done. If I have to describe an analogy for the Institute, it would be that the Institute has made most of the resources which are under par for a College in Bangalore. The glory years of College will come soon, as other Institutes have started seeing Atria as their juggernauts have started rolling. Many of my friends told me that my abysmal time has started as I have joined an Institute which is under-par. I have proved them wrong by a huge margin as of today.

Credit to the Institute to try and find a way to mix and match theory and practicals, as the Institute has fetched more often than not. Most lectures at the Institute were fruitful as they used the time as rather than leaving it for backend; everything was finished in the middle of the semester. Nothing was destined for the backend other than a power pack revision. It is a bitter pill to swallow that even after doing so well, a big thorn has always remained with the Institute. For a proud Institute like Atria, it's like Ronaldo playing for Manchester United and still losing 4-0, the other day against a poor side. Yes, I am saying it again, the Institute may be losing ranking against many Colleges, but the way it took its academics, I don't think the numbers are justified.

Faculty here was more about match-ups. One faculty looked rusty; the associate professor came in and took that class. So, there's always a back-up as the College keeps ready with their plan B at least. Finishing the course before time may be in their agenda but not at the cost of reading out notes and moving on. They gave us time to think over it and ask questions before moving forward. At best, any Institute or even the best of faculty would do that only. So, the faculty did what at best one could do, and for that reason, I will give them all the credit they deserve.

Data Sciences, which was my course, needs tech companies that don't provide solutions but build them. So, research companies like Capegemini, IBM, Oracle, and Accenture have made their labs inside the Institute and they monitored our progress from there. So, all our progress reports were with them and that made work easy for the College management, at least when it came to MCA or M. Tech students. The number of students who got placed is 75% or more. The average salary that M. Tech (Data Science) students were offered was 7-8 Lakhs. Few students also managed to get over 15-20 lakhs too. So, placements for M. Tech from Atria were the best as one needs to have good CGPA and placements will take care of itself.

The College location is good but it was inevitable for me to stay at the hostel to save travel time in Bangalore. The boys' hostel is inside the campus and rooms were available on double occupancy to PG students and triple occupancy to PG students. Now there are few rules for which I will curse the warden. He didn't sleep the whole night and made our life miserable. We were not allowed to roam in the hostel and we couldn't even go to our friend's room after a certain time. How is that even possible, but at AIT hostel rules were rules. The curfew time was 7 pm and a warden would come five minutes before for the attendance. The dinner time was 7-9 pm and if we were hungry after that, we were not even allowed to order food for ourselves. The hostel rooms and cleanliness were fine, but these rules put a thorn to a glorious hostel life.

The campus is big and well maintained. The basketball court was our stress buster after the classes. To meet friends over a discussion, the coffee shop at the campus was best suited. Yet, it operated till 6 pm as they had to shut their operations after that. The library was adequate and so were the labs and other facilities available at the campus.

More than cultural fests, it was technical fests at the campus that helped us grow. Dexterix and SCIENTIA were the biggest technical events that happened every semester. In the first half, the College organized Dexterix, which was a competition among the College students, and SCIENTIA was an Inter-College technical fest which was judged by stalwarts of the industry. Life passed by as two years at Atria flew and I was able to make some nice memories during those years.
