Uttaranchal University B.Tech Review By Kamal Suyal

I was looking forward to going to the College after almost 4 months' break because the sessions in Uttarakhand Universities generally start in August. While our exams were finished in March and results were out in May. College life started at the Uttaranchal University with an induction program which lasted a week. From the outset, it's hard to figure out how the University operates. Exams dates changed often, but the good part was they were postponed and students never had complaints with that. The outsiders though had because most students were from UP and Bihar and getting their reservations done and then canceling was a bit of a pain for them. The University is beautiful and 10 on 10 for that. The education part was good in patches, but not as a whole. The placements were minimal and that was the most serious issue. No one can raise eyebrows on campus life as it was the most comfort giving thing about the University.

Education-wise, I have few complaints, but Uttaranchal University is one University that finishes courses on time. So, on that front, no complaints, but the schedule getting disturbed was a matter of complaint. The University took many bouncy steps as they kept check on student's attendance and also the progress made by the students. Student's passing with good numbers was rewarded as they got a lot of fees concessions. So, to boost education, the University has put many good things in perspective. The students who joined here were rather not that serious. If the question is, are we looking at any changes in the academic system of Uttaranchal University? My answer to that is they should keep the schedule firm and rest all is fantastic.

Faculties never wanted to go the route which they were not comfortable with. They were good at doing their job to the best. They made lectures quite funny and on every odd occasion, they would indulge the students in some games. Even after such a lengthy syllabus and so little time, they maneuvered it so nicely that we never felt any excess baggage coming our way. Seminars and Ted Talks from industry experts was something which was regular at Uttaranchal University. The best quality of faculty was not immune to student's problems as they solved them to the best of their capacities.

In engineering, not getting placed should never be an option. After grinding for so long and seeing few students getting jobs and I personally not being in that vertical was the biggest setback at Uttaranchal University. The ratio of students who were placed was anyways low because Uttaranchal University comes after DIT, BFIT, and GEU for placements. We were told some of the most scintillating figures that students were placed with so-and-so packages. I never met any such student because the ones I know had placements in the range of 6-8 lakhs. Figures are impressive, but for the ones who had it. For me, it was the biggest setback at Uttaranchal University.

There were quite a few blocks of boys and girls hostels and all the three-floor buildings were of the same shape and size. The rooms were different as it had single, double, and triple seater rooms. I was never a part of the hostel, but day scholars were allowed in the mess as they could pay and have their food over there. So, I can talk more about the food part as my most lunches happened over there. The mess was clean and food served was fresh. The lunch timings were 11.30 to 1.30 and students had to have their lunch during then. Our recess break was done at 12.30, and so we had ample time to go and have food at the mess.

There are over 10 departmental buildings at the campus as the University has many courses. All the buildings were identical but had some unique features. The biggest auditorium of the campus, the Swami Vivekananda auditorium was at the ground floor of our building. The playgrounds were great and the IT part was well covered with a huge computer center located at the center of the University. It's 10 on 10 for this part because the University is big and maintained.

Campus life was pretty well stable and so I don't see the need for any change in the way the University organizes all its events and all. Students show the best version of themselves as the University events are the best way to get recognized. Uttaranchal Yuva Fest is the annual fest of the University where all department students participate. Apart from that, all departments have their fests, too.
