DIT University B.Tech Review By Piyush Talyan

'DIT' is one of the most beautiful Universities in Dehradun. I saw students from all over the states of India coming and studying here. Dehradun has some of the best schools and also houses some of the best Universities in the country. DIT is one of those Universities that offers you everything but placements. For placements, there is one good University in Dehradun and that is GEU. DIT was close to my place and that was the only reason I joined it. I wanted to go to GEU, but an hour of travel daily forced me to have a go at DIT, which is good in many senses. Academics here are super strong as the B. Tech syllabus is always updated with some of the best minds working on it. The faculties were a good mix of experience and youth. Infrastructure was great as more than the University, it was the location of the University that can anyone fall in love with the University. So, if you are not worried about the placements, DIT will offer you a lot in return for the four years that you stay with the University.

DIT doesn't have as many courses and that rather made it good enough for us to study peacefully in an environment that was the most conducive for studies. DIT is regarded as a prestigious University and all because of the kind of exposure that it provides us. Academics has made the College image great not just in Dehradun but beyond it as well. We had course-based classes from 9:30 to 4 pm daily from Monday to Friday. Well, Saturdays were different as the classes for communication skill, soft skills, GATE preparation classes and others. So, academics and DIT were hand in hand for most of our course.

More than anything else, one thing that I can assure is that they taught well. Yes, they all were highly qualified from some of the best Universities of India, but not all the best athletes can be best coaches. Likewise, the faculties were hand-picked based on their teaching experiences. So, the University has done well on that front. Some faculties looked tired throughout, so can't complain much about them because the ratio of such faculty was low. Most faculties were great and I was happy studying under their guidance.

The University has managed to get some of the best companies to DIT campus. However, students had to pay some extra fees to get trained for placements. Even the students who did that couldn't get placements and therefore I skipped that thing. Thus, it was inevitable that I couldn't get placed through campus. Placements have gone better in the recent past as one of the students of our batch got placed with a package of 22 lakhs with Amazon. The picture of the University, though, needs a lot of improvement because the number of students getting placed is quite low and the University should take this quite seriously.

The hostels of the campus are great as there were enough rooms to accommodate as many students that enroll at the University. There are junior and senior hostels as ragging is non-existent in the University, but the University still doesn't feel like taking such chances. I haven't seen the hostels from inside as no one apart from hostellers were permitted to enter the campus. There are quite a few PGs close to DIT as many students who wished to stay independent stayed there. Close to the campus is Mussoorie Road and it is 20 kilometers away from DIT campus.

One can find all means of communication from the chowk close to the DIT campus. So, the location part is sorted that way. There are departmental blocks and the CSE department which houses the maximum students, was the largest of them all. The campus roads, cafes and computer labs were quite beautiful. I have seen better than them during my PG life, so won't say they were the best, but they were good enough. There were three to four recreational activity rooms and one unique thing was the international styled badminton courts. Even the playground was great as sporting activities are given a lot of importance at the University.

During lunch breaks, 'Red Mug Café' used to be our joint. From the beginning of the year, we used to get ourselves ready with some projects that we could present at Youthopia, which is the annual techno-cultural fest of the campus. The event segments at the campus were filled with every month in the calendar. Life at DIT was fun-filled and extravagant as learning was there, and more than that, it gave us enough reasons to celebrate our glorious B. Tech life with enthusiasm.
