National Institute of Technology Karnataka B.Tech Review By Shivansh Baranwal

I am currently a 2nd year student in B.Tech EEE branch at NITK. So coming into this institute was never decided. The story begins with a student preparing for IIT did well in MAINS have CRL 7384 but then bored and messed up in ADVANCE and ends up with a bad rank. From the ADVANCE rank I was not able to get to a good IIT so decide going for NIT instead. Now while deciding the institute I had 2 options going for best NIT with electrical as branch as per rank or going to decent NIT with CS. I was like not much into coding so I decided to go for the first option primarily for 3 reasons the best NIT will offer me relatively more intelligent students and secondly I will get exposure to other branch as I read from Google that the EEE branch is chill and last language problem is lesser here. Then I came to institute, it is a beautiful campus with greenery. it has been 3 semester in institute and like every institute this also has both pros and cons when it comes to compare it to top IITs but no institute other than that is even close to discuss.

So NITK Surathkal offers good courses both for B.Tech, M.Tech as well as MBA and MCA. Admission is taken based on your rank. EEE branch stands for Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The course include subject both from Power Engineering and Semi Conductor. The course provides you two pathways in the field of electricity. I personally was not very sure taking up the course but it was something new to me to tackle. As we know the world is moving and requiring a ton of chip, semiconductor comes in play. Secondly the electrical is the core of internet and every development. And lastly if you take this branch most of tech companies will allow you for placement which does not happen in mechanical, so yeah it's a good choice.

The institute has different and good number of faculty members. Most of them are highly qualified and master of field completing their education from top IITs and world’s top universities. The faculties also have large amount of innovative project under their head so you could be part of them and help them out. Most of teaching style is on blackboard and PowerPoint Presentations but professor can use their own methods if needed and necessary. There are some guidelines and instructions which need to obeyed but a good portion lies on the hands of teachers.

Yes, the institute does have a placement cell which manages and takes care of all the placements and internship opportunities in the institute. It helps students to get a company in such a manner that no opportunity gets wasted and whoever can, should grab it. To give you a deep insight their category of companies in institute are normal dream and super dream. Let say if you land up in a dream company now you can only apply for super dream and rest are closed which gives chance to other students. NITK Surathkal is 300 acres campus which comprises a good amount of hostel both for boys and girls. More than 90% students reside in the hostels as they offer better environment and closeness to the academic area. The hostel condition and type is different for most of them. Some of them were built in 1962 at start of institute to some being built recently with 100 Cr. Both of them are good but yeah there's a difference due to time. Although my personal point of view hostel should be taken by each one because it's economical as well fun .You need to take up the mess if you are in hostel it's a rule.

NITK Surathkal has good infrastructure. The campus offers some great academic departments with all necessary labs, research section with world class facilities, auditorium for events and other small and big buildings to take care of other things. An open stage exists for cultural programs and has a decent facility for sports and fitness. The campus includes 3 gyms. It also has 1-1 common room for girls & boys respectively. Indoor badminton, table tennis courts, basketball, volleyball court, cricket ground, football ground and an athletic track are also there in the campus. Proper infrastructural facilities for yoga are also available here.

The institute offers a vast variety of things to explore. There are large amount of clubs which you can be part of. The club includes dance, music, robotics, drone and everything you need. People interested in finance also have some part although not that great but the director is aiming to improve the entrepreneurship culture in institute by promoting events and students. Two major events takes place one being Engineer (the technical fest) and Incident (being the cultural fest). Apart from this you have E-summit for entrepreneurship and other countless events .You can enjoy nearby location and most importantly the private beach. The institute is improving year on year trying to better the facilities and still it is great.
