Reasons for Choosing Hindu College, New Delhi for Higher Education

So I joined Hindu College in August of 2023, firstly I wasn't really willing to pursue B.Sc to begin with, but I couldn't score enough marks in medical entrance, so I gave CUET and got into Hindu College. I wanted to pursue B.Sc in Chemistry but one needs to have studied Math in class 11th & 12th to be able to pursue B.Sc in Chemistry or Physics. Therefore I decided to choose Zoology Honors. The institute in my opinion has a great infrastructure and it's a very green and beautiful campus with two canteens, a big ground and a lot of places to hang-out with your friends. Area wise also it's quite large. There is a little fun when there are society events, the annual events of the college, founder's day, freshers and farewell. For someone who is a hosteller or pg dweller then, college can be a little more fun because they don't have any concept of curfews or anything so they can enjoy the events for longer. But as someone who's about to start their college life, I guess they must keep Hindu College as their first preference since it's a great college education wise and facility wise. Also, the faculty is also good they're of course very experienced and well read. I chose Hindu College because of course it's one of the best colleges of Delhi University and at that point it was ranked 2 in the NIRF ranking, now its ranked number 1. So all in all, it's a great college and you won't regret coming to Hindu especially if you're a science or arts student.

Academics of Hindu College are something that it's known for. However I do feel that the structure of the syllabus could have been better. In my course there's a lot of practical work as well, so that is also something that is emphasized upon. To get into Zoology Honors, of course you must be a science student and you must score a decent score for e.g. I scored 543/600 in 2023 but this year the cut off was raised and it was close to 580 from what I know. Of course for the students belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, the cut off is much lesser. Other than that, different students have their own motives for being in this course, some of them have a keen interest in the subject, some of them want to go into research, some want to pursue Ph.D and go into professorship, some are simply here because that's the only course they were eligible for. I want to go in the field of teaching, I like Zoology and I feel the most joy in explaining concepts to students which is why I think teaching is something I want to get into.

The faculty members are quite experienced. Some teachers do teach well also, but a handful to be honest. The teaching method used by most of the teachers is not very interesting. I've heard that this happens in most of the colleges, so for people who are about to begin with their college journey, brace yourselves to be self reliant for studying most of the subjects. To sum it all, the faculty members are experienced but it doesn't show most of times in the way they teach.

Yes, Hindu College has a placement cell called Disha and an internship cell called Abhyas as well. I think the placement cell of our college is quite famous, since some of the commerce background students got placements in companies like Accenture, Deloitte, etc. I believe it's obviously based on how meritorious and experienced the individual is. However the placement cell of our college isn't that active on social media sites, in my opinion it should be more active so that more students would be able to get information about placements and their commencements but overall I do think, that being from Hindu College really adds something to the CV and increases chances of placements.

Yes, Hindu College comprises of a girl's hostel and the boy's hostel is under construction. So, I'm a day scholar but I have a few friends who live in Hostel, honestly their experience is not that great. There is shortage in water supply in girl’s washroom. There is a common washroom for like 20 girls. However, from what I know the rooms are spacious enough for two people to live comfortably, there's a curfew as well so they have to be in the hostel by 10 PM at any cost. No one, except the residents of the hostel can enter the Hostel, not even female friends or even parents. From the outside, the hostel looks huge and it does look beautiful and also the hostellers get to enjoy a lot of parties as well like Christmas party, Diwali party, etc. So, I guess that's a fun thing. And only the ones, who live really far away, can apply for getting a room in the hostel. In my opinion the advantage for the hostellers is that they literally live inside the college, so they can be on time, they can save on rickshaw money, plus they get to live a hostel life.

Our campus has a main building, a new academic block that was inaugurated much later and is dedicated to science students that is one floor is the physics block, then chemistry block then there's a botany and a zoology block as well, there are labs in this block in which we perform our practical. There's a library in the college as well, which is quite convenient for the ones who want to study in peace away from the hustle and bustle of college. There are two auditoriums, one for all the events like freshers, farewell, founder's day events and the other one is mostly for society speaker sessions, seminars and research related meetings, etc. There's an amphitheater, huge ground provided with a basketball court and a football court as well. There's an admin block as well, wherein we get our admit card stamped, fee related issues resolved, submission of fee receipts and Medical, etc. All in all the campus is quite elaborated and is provided with a lot of facilities as well. There are a lot of free spaces available close to the buildings which give the college a very open kind of feel. The campus area is very beautiful and is something that most people boast about, but I will add that almost all colleges of Delhi University look the same, the only thing that differs is the area, and Hindu College’s campus is spread over 25 acres.

I have to say that the most happening aspect of the college is constituted by the events, and there are quite a lot of events that take place in Hindu College, which not only gives the students a break from their monotonous college life, but also gives them a chance to experience new things & have a great time. Hindu College's annual event called Mecca is one of its kind, Mecca'22 was considered one of the most magnanimous events that have ever taken place in Hindu College. It was sponsored by Coke Studio and Sunidhi Chauhan's was the one who performed, Aastha gill was called in Mecca'23 and the event was a blast. This event is organised by the student council of Hindu College, and the budget is given by Hindu's Principal. This year Hindu celebrated its 125th Founder's day, in this vice president of India visited the Hindu College, a rally took place which was joined by Arjun Rampal, Ellie Avram and Vidyut Jamwal, and Guests like Imtiaz Ali who's an alumni of Hindu College, also paid a visit. Yet another, most awaited event that takes place in Hindu College is “Suruchi” which is the Diwali Mela organised by NSS, that event is best known for all kinds of stalls that are a part of this fair and overall the vibe is so infectious. Other than this even societies and departments have their own fests & of course the list of events is never ending given the volume of societies and departments Hindu College has. one thing about the college is that no matter from which part of the Country you belong, while you're in this college you get so familiar with each and every culture that exists in the entire country, since the crowd in Hindu is not just from Delhi in fact most people come from different states to study in Hindu College and of course they bring their own culture along with them. So, there's a beautiful blend of culture that you will witness in the college. apart from the societies, events and all there's another thing that just changes the entire 'vaatavaran' of Hindu College and that is elections, I haven't seen anyone so enthusiastic about elections or politics in general, than the students of Hindu College, they are so deeply involved in elections, from organizing regular rallies to propaganda to debates to reels, I guess when elections are about to happen everything in college seems less important than elections. All in all Hindu College is very eventful & something or the other keeps happening here, every now and then.
