Reasons Why IIT Dhanbad is a Dream Institute of Engineering Students

See, IIT Dhanbad, being an IIT is none less than a dream for many aspirants all across the nation. The IIT Dhanbad has a very beautiful campus, well connected classrooms and hostels, with ample dining spots all around the campus. Recently an E-Rickshaw service has also been initiated in the campus, at just Rs.8 per ride. The classrooms are equipped with modern technology and are thoroughly clean. Although, the class size of above 100, feels a little excess to me. Going to the academic sides, saying simply, IIT Dhanbad is a research institute, more than a product or tech based. The AI/ML and even core engineering research here is more valuable, than the much sought after, Startups and Product based IITs.

I am enrolled in Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. It is an 8 semester (4 years) course. Other specifications are also the same duration. The first 2 semesters, earlier, students from all discipline were taught the same subjects. Then the discipline specific subjects, start from 3rd semester. But from this batch (2028), the curriculum has changed. Students are taught discipline related subjects from the day one. The entry to any IIT, including IIT Dhanbad, is done through JEE Advance Ranking. I don't think anyone needs any more information about this.

The faculty at IIT Dhanbad is very great and experienced. I have professors who are Stanford graduated and there is definitely a difference between teaching at an IIT and at any other college because at other colleges, the course is basically structured for landing you a job. But at IITs, the courses are structured and the professors are more inclined to teach you the core basics of the subject, which is a great thing.

Yes we do have a placement cell at Indian Institute of Technology Dhanbad. It takes care of bringing many great companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, BNY Mellon, Standard Chartered, JSW, Reliance and many more for campus hiring. They are the body responsible for making the official paperwork and discussing the recruitment processes. A Student Coordinator for Placement Cell (SCPT) is selected from each branch, making the Placement cell transparent and accessible.

Yes, the campus do provides Hostel and Faculty Residential as well. I can talk about the newly build Aquamarine Hostel. It is a whopping, 14 story building, probably the tallest in the city, equipped with modern rooms, and safety precautions. We have fire emergency pipes all around the hostel for unforeseen circumstances. There are 9 blocks, each of which has 2 lifts each. There are common rooms equipped with socially playable games, (like carrom, tennis) and also a 60 inch Television. There is 2 Tennis Court inside the hostel. Not counting the facilities at the Students Activity Center (SAC). Some hostel even has their Gym (Sapphire).

Let’s take a visual tour of the campus. Entering from the main gate, keep walking straight, and you will find some small parks and parking areas on your side. Then you reach the roundabout. Taking left, will take you to the New Academic Center, which is equipped with State of the ART, laboratories, some of them even worth crore. It has a Nescafe for recreation. Turning right, you will get to the Scolomin's House (Director's House). And then a tunnel to faculty quarters, and then we have the girls hostels. Keep walking straight you see the Heritage building, and it’s really beautiful, given its British architecture and loving Oval Garden. Then to the right of Heritage building, you will find the Second largest technical library of ASIA. Behind the main building, there are the famous Penman Auditorium and some eateries.

The campus life here at IIT Dhanbad, is overall good. You get nice friends, cultural clubs to join, and you don't feel the lack of family with the amazing friends here. Also, beware of the fact, that being in a competitive play-zone, there is always a crab race, for placements. People are more inclined about the enjoyment and college life, than being serious about making a significant change. The college fests Srijan and Concetto are amazing, as IIT fests are 5 stars to the setup during fests and the enthusiasm of the crowd. It’s worth living in IIT Dhanbad.
