Oriental College of Technology B.Tech Review By Arth Garg

I am thinking for a while on where to start from as the education here was pathetic. The professors here must be fake as they changed like these days people change their DPs on WhatsApp. There are many great engineering colleges in Bhopal and yet I feel as if I have chosen the worst of them. Institutes like the Sagar Institute, IES Institute, LNCT, and K.N.P. Group are definitely better than Oriental College of Technology. Some rules are so absurd like one of them is the mandatory bus fees. I used to go to the college by my own bike and still had to pay the bus fees. I mean what was that, the Thakral family that runs this college is short of money or what. Every semester apart from the fees, a registration fee also had to be paid. I mean we register once in the college then why do we have to pay the fees for the same thing every semester. Even the placements here are fake as many students here are offered short term roles so that the college can show it on their prospectus and get many new admissions. Mostly the classes were over by 1 pm because practicals were scheduled for thrice in a week but happened just once or twice in a week but still, we had to stay in the college as we were not allowed to leave before 3 pm.

Academics are such that students can’t just develop intellectually here as numerous factors play a crucial role. I wish I could mention them all but I can't offend the ones who are still studying there. The attendance is a namesake as the students here hardly feel an urge to come to the college and so bunking once or twice in a week is a common practice here. The only thing where the college has done academically good is they have organized classes for preparations of GATE, CAT, UPSC, and other competitive exams. So, this way college has been a great help for us.

I wish to write many stories but I feel I should excuse them. Especially when many teachers leave the college in a few days. The new ones kept coming and going as only some professors stuck with their jobs. Forget about the elementary knowledge of the subjects, they couldn’t even speak a single word in English. I just want to ask the college’s HR Department from where do you get such people? Faculties are the core of academics and since they weren’t permanent or good, how can academics be good here?

Percentage wise Oriental College of Technology placements may look good on paper but I want to know how many of the students who passed out from here have survived in their jobs. Companies like Cognizant, COFORGE, Infosys and others took the B.Tech students as trainees and the salary they offered was 20k a month. I seriously wanted to ask why engineers in this country just deserve peanuts because in my books 20k is even less than that for engineers.

Boys and girls hostels are inside the campus and the hostels are just 100m walking distance from the campus. The main university campus was right next to our building and that campus has many hostels and students can enroll in those hostels too. The hostels of the university campus were great as the in time is strict but the facilities wise the hostels are completely good. Food was served thrice but traveling to the hostel mess and then coming back was not possible for students. However, they could only eat Thali and if they wished to eat anything else, they had to pay for that.

The main campus is huge and we could use all those facilities too. Our campus labs were pathetic and yet we had to use them. OCT Bhopal campus has nothing apart from the fantastic building that looks like a parliament house. Apart from building the entire area is a garden and we were not even allowed to play on that. Our campus had a small auditorium and it wasn’t even sufficient for our college students. So, OCT Bhopal’s infrastructure was poor but the main campus which was right next to OCT campus was great.

When the academics and placement conditions are not in your favor, there’s no chance that you will have a great campus life. The campus life though was in ranks because events of the university were simply outstanding. If the placements were big, I would have at least appreciated this part but because nothing fell into my groove, I will have to say that campus life too was disappointing. I am sorry for being too critical but this is true and I am not talking to you about back to the days as I passed in 2018 which is not so long ago.
