Nirma University: Placement Opportunities and Outcomes

The overall experience at the University is good. The campus is good and there is certain academic pressure still it would eventually help in the understanding of how to engage yourself in your profession and create a work-life balance. I chose this University because first of all the location is Ahmedabad where there are various opportunities especially if you are looking for a corporate. There is a certain work-life balance here, and if you have an interest in exploring new places it is a good choice. Second, the University of Law is one of the best Universitys in Ahmedabad, overall, in India. Recently, in 2023, it was ranked 27th in the NIRF rankings. Third, you will get opportunities to participate in various renounced competitions like the Philip Jessup moot competition. Fourth, the University provides diverse courses like B.A. LLB (Hons.), B.Com LLB (Hons.), and doctoral programs including LL.M. Last, the campus has various facilities from late-night studying in the library to exploring the University itself.

My course is B.A.LL.B (Hons.) which is a five-year integrated course. I got admission to the University based on the CLAT rank I received in my entrance exam. The eligibility criteria are relaxed and focused on the rank in the CLAT exam. The admission process is fairly easy. You need to submit the application for the University of Law, Nirma University on its website and also submit your CLAT scorecard and other essential documents. The year will be divided into 2 semesters from June to December and January to May with 1 internship break in between the semesters. As mentioned the academic pressure is there, but it will still eventually help in professional life. It will give you the skills to not only study the surface knowledge of any subject but have an in-depth understanding of it. The semester allocates weightage of 60% of internal assessments and 40% to the final examination. Moreover, it will help you learn the skill of "handling the pressure" and successfully have a work-life balance.

The fee structure of the University of Law, Nirma University is around Rs. 3,00,000 each year. It also provides financial aid through scholarship in 2 categories: Merit Cum Means and merit-based only. The scholarship amount ranges from 100% to 75% of total tuition fees. Nirma University has a good faculty of professionals in the field. The faculty comes from diverse backgrounds, including Ph.D. holders, retired judges, and former government officers. Also, most faculties adopt interactive sessions for class discussions including presentations, clinical exercises, etc. The University also offers a mentor-mentee policy, to allow the students to have an individual faculty member who is assigned as a mentor to the student, and guides and advises the student for both professional and personal problems in University. Apart from that, the faculty members are available to help and are easily approachable to resolve any problems.

There is a placement cell available in the University of Law, which will help in providing information for applying for internships in various firms, opportunities to apply for internships in various firms like LKS, Amlegals, etc. Also, it conducts sessions like mock interviews, CV workshops, and more to prepare students for opportunities in multiple fields of law. Various renowned firms and companies come for recruitment like KPMG, EY, etc. and its average went from 8-14 lakh per annum.

The University provides hostel facilities for both UG and PG programs in all the departments. They have both girls' and boy's hostels with mess facilities. Mess facilities include breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have good quality hygienic food. The hostel provides the room for a whole year and fees had to be paid annually. The hostels have both AC and non-AC rooms and has other recreational facilities like cable TV, common rooms for interaction, etc. Students may also opt to live in the PG’s near the University.

The Nirma University has a large campus size including Art Gallery, Auditoriums, canteens, ATMs and Banks, Hostels, student stores, transportation, parking, and student rooms. There is also a Wi-Fi facility, a Student Welfare Board, a Women's Development Cell, a Health Care Centre, a Counseling Centre, events grounds, and a cricket ground. The Library at the University of Law has a wide collection of books ranging from non-fiction and fiction. There are also study or reading rooms in the University that allow students to sit for long hours and have a focused environment to study.

The Campus life is good. The University crowd is academically helpful. There are various activities conducted like Music events, poetry sessions, movie-related events, etc. The campus also has various activity cells including the Student Research Council, Student Activity Committee, Moot Court, Dispute Resolution Committee, and various other committees. There is sports committee, drama club, music club, etc. There are academic committees too like Criminal Law Committee, or Corporate Law Committee. They conduct various events like Quiz competitions, expert sessions, and seminars on various niche topics and bring prominent personalities for guest lecture. Therefore, overall a great exposure in the field of law.
